Default Kooks 1 7/8 LTs that I was bitching about...RESOLUTION IN PROGRESS

Well, just got off the phone with George, and I will be shipping the drivers side header and Y Pipe back on my dime, not to happy about that. Here are the pics.

I had this nasty exhaust leak, sounded like a ******* old cosworth airplane engine, was running rich as all hell on Bank 1 and I couldnt get the flange to seal for the life of me. Go figure. The Y Pipe, as posted earlier, I have never seen one that hung lower on the pass side, never heard of one either. George is going to hang the Y Pipe on the jig to see whats up and correct whats needing correction. Definately seals the deal with a missing velocity spike though, something George said he's never heard of, and I must agree. Hell, everyone at the shop was in pure amazement and some of those guys are older than me!

Hopefully I can get them boxed up tonight after work, and then call fedex to pick them up. Too bad I paid for 2nd Air to get this stuff here originally, and it didnt get here in 2 days, 3 or 6days! So, in the end, an $1100 set of headers will end up costing me out the ***. Maybe I can showcase them huh, LS1Tech.com's most expensive headers! Sounds like a new "record" title to me
Enjoy.

Charlie

*EDITED* Got ahold of George this morning and he agreed to authroize a call tag for the sponsor I purchased from which is great news. Before anyone asks, I was told previously to go straight to Kooks if there were any issues, just like the last set that came in (one was a race header and one an emissions...finally got that resolved also). So, UPS or Fedex should be here Friday to pick up the header and Y pipe so George can repair/replace the header and replace the Y pipe. If all goes well, I will be rolling happy again *crossing fingers*. I appreciate the support and sanity check, sometime it is hard to remain clear headed, at least when the $$$ shipping amount comes in against you. Mahalo!

There not even paying shipping for there screw up??? Remind me not to buy from them! Thats not very good customer service. Why should you have to bite it for there problem? Do you have to pay shipping back as well?

get some qtp's they were in great shape, save i had to elongate one hole about 1/8 of an inch...other than that, they fit great, are leak free, and have great customer service. They actually called me back long distance, to walk me through the install. ALSO, got mine shipped for 700. WORTH EVERY DAMN CENT!!!!

Yeah, I got my QTP 1 7/8ths today. Definatly a nice peice, good welds and real beefy. Seem to weigh more than the Hookers they will replace. Never considered the Kooks, heard too many negative things. That's pretty weak you have to pay out of your pocket to ship back a defective header.

Odd, I had to do the same thing for the driver side header to make it fit. Sounds like QTP's needs check their templates or drill press. I wonder how many others have the same problem.

That is insane. I can't believe that there was that big of a mistake and Kooks won't pay for the freight.

I think this is the first time I've read anything negative about Kook's headers though.

I cant send the Kooks back until tomorrow, so I am going to try one more time, to politely ask for them to send a call tag. I could see if it were just a customer bitching about the fitment being **** or something. But GD, when a fricken spike blows out of the header, and the flange IS warped/bent on a cyl (same header) then its obvious this was a lunch break/friday/monday built header and the onus shouldn't be on me to pay AGAIN! If I have to, I will. But of course I have the digital camera and more pics to take first Pisses me off.

Wow, that sucks to hear. I'd be pissed if they didn't pay for shipping on a defective product. I was considering getting stainless longtubes in the future, and I sure as hell won't be going with Kooks. This isn't the first problem I've heard about them.

If they won't help you out with shipping after asking nicely, tell them you will contest the charge to you credit card! That always get's the vendors attention

Those were 1 7/8" headers though. You don't have those issues with 1 3/4".

Theres a theory I have...if it can go wrong, it will. There are several companies I have seen on here in the last couple years, new starters, and old, that eventually over time seem to drop the QC whenever I order from them too. I will no longer order parts from online, or phone, I will teach my wife to do it for me. This **** is a ******* headache. No idea, but I am scared, how much this shipping is going to cost me tomorrow.

If you package it yourself, and it takes up as little volume as possible, I'd guess about $40-50 via UPS or Fedex. Assuming you're only shipping the defective header. If it's going to be both headers and the Y-pipe, be sure to take some KY jelly.
