Exclamation Outlaw?? Incorrect install=broken intake..Still unresolved after 3 months

Update: 11/19/2007
Still NOTHING!!!!

Read update in post 14
Mods, I request your assistance. I am so done with this.

Let me start out that being one of the 1st few customers of Outlaw, they gave me a deal on labor. But with that came a price. Less than average install procedures.

Read below if you dare to consider business. That is of course if they are still open upon reading this.

Note, that I am an experienced retail regional mgr and I know how to run a business. Mind you, someone else's business, but I know service. What you will find here is a story of how not to deal with the public...............

I am not looking for anything free. I just want what I paid for to be right.

Its worth mentioning that even though I got a good deal on install, my car was in their shop for "8 months". Ignore that for now. I understood that $$ had to be made around my car to pay the bills since my labor costs were not going to pay them. But again, I did not expect a rush job after having it sooo long already.

Short story: You have to use low head clearance bolts on the valley cover when bolting on the manifold. Hence why the intake COMES with the bolt kit.
Tony says that he called FAST and they told him to use whatever he had
Ummmmmmm ok

I have had the car for a few months, but because I rarely drove it, there was not enough heat cycles to bring out the issue. When I changed jobs, I had to use it as a daily for 3 weeks. On the 2nd week, that did it. If you read tech, I had a horrible horrible vacuum leak (3k idle!!) that I absolutely could not find. I pulled every hose (twice), replaced MAF, IAC, 02's, etc etc.....not to mention tearing up my clutch, gas and headache. Of course its not his fault I had only one car but this never should have happened. I never in my wildest dreams imagined the intake was damaged.

See below:

Here are the results:

Bolts that were used on valley

Bolts you should use on valley

length of crack (is that glue, did we know already??)

Big bolt

Look at the marks another bolt was making

Talking to Tony on Mon, I was under the impression we would work this out. He told me he'd stop by "my house" to pick up the intake and make things right. After forwarding a link to a great sponsor price on an intake and giving him the hours I'd be home.............I never heard from him again......its Fri!!!
Now remember, I have no backup car, I rode my bike 3 times to FLP whose helping me get her back together and here I would have been waiting and waiting for an answer. So I have purchased an intake from my boy in CO (byunspeed) and its on its way to FLP.

So what am I out?

$810 for intake
$225 to plumb said intake for fogger
$???? pulling entire kit off car cause I am reinstalling it

I have originally decided to leave out some other issues that were found as I tore apart the car as this was the glaring problem but in all fairness, I must warn my fellow hot rodders. My noids were barely hand tight, my stand alone fuel tank has no venting, important wires for window switch, nos, activation, etc were only quick clipped instead of soldered, capped and taped. My horn went missing, dip stick tube bolt missing, parking brake broke, loose activation switch on floorboard, extra hole drilled by cup holder for non-existent switch, etc............. In all fairness, I did not tell him every little thing as the intake was what is the immediate issue. I can fix the rest.

For having my car for 8 months, this is unacceptable. No matter the pricing. I'm a nice guy and took everything thrown at me for a year. But I'm done. When it costs me $1000 to replace something that could have been avoided, I get upset. Thank God my wife has been more than patient. If I blew something from wear and tear, its my fault. But as you can see, this was pure neglect..

Tony, are you out there?

You still have time to make this right. Show the community that you care.
Your communication skills are horrible. Your work has the capability of being good. Hell, I'd consider this a lesson learned if we work it out since maybe you did believe those bolts would work. But now that I have to play chase, it does not sit well. I hope that, god for bid, something personal came up and I jumped the gun, but you cant leave a person hanging like this for days. I have a life, a kid to pick up from daycare, mortgage to pay, etc and cant sit around hoping for an email from you. I have had the shop im using call me daily for an update on if I can get them the intake so they can throw it on for me THE SAME DAY..............

Lets figure this out.

You can send me the $$$, credit my old credit card, send me a barely used plummed intake and I will even ebay it, etc..... I'm open for suggestions.

That appears to be shoddy work - are those bolts from Home Depot?

Have you sent this (including pictures) to Outlaw and see if more than just talking to Tony will get this done? Its always worth going a more documented route with a full breakdown of what it will cost for work not performed to specs that caused damage.

This situation needs to be made right by Outlaw, period.

Unfortunately all I have is what is listed on their site. Let me check to see if any other staff have alternate contact - this cannot be left unaddressed.

If you are contacted by Outlaw tomorrow please let us know.

All phone numbers on their website are temporarily disconnected with one reroute to another temp disconnected number.

This does not look good.

Admin has been contacted about this - one local to Outlaw is trying to get more information what the heck is going on.

Just curious, have you tried to look up any sort of business license for them to see if it is still active?

I emailed Tony (sales@outlawhp.com) and he got back to me pretty quickly, so give that a try. I called his new number, which is not updated on the website, 815.740.0001, and it rang for a while. He said he is getting a new answering machine.

Jason, did I not respond to every email that you sent and I said I had no problem getting that fixed for you? Not once did I say no Im not doing anything did I? Should I copy and paste our convo?

Also, that is a butt connector, we use them on everything and they work fie and stay protected.

Those bolts are grade 5, grade 8 isnt really necessary since this isnt that heavy. I had the same setup in my car and it went mid 9s all day so the bolts are fine. There is a nut welded to the frame that the bolt is bolted too.

Edit: I do remember telling jason now that I would come pick it up, I forgot about that, but not since then have I received an email about it. It goes to my phone so I get every email on there too.

Tony,
You have to look at the customer perspective:

I gave you my house #, cell #, and address.
Your last communication to me was that you'd stop by and pick it up.
My last communication to you was a link I sent for a great price on a new intake, mentioned this was my only car AND asking again what day you were coming. That email, went unanswered and communication stopped there.

Every attempt by me, friends, tech, etc to the shop were for nill. (but I guess we were callin a disconnected #)
If the machine was not working, would you not try to reach me by answering email or calling?

As for work, I guess thats opinion. If you daily drive that car, will it hold up? Could heat cycles bring it to light? And why not use the bolts in either of our cars if they come with?

So where do we go from here? My car is buttoned up and in my garage running fine with a new intake/tune. If you have one and send it to me, I will ebay it if necessary unless you have other ideas. If you want me to ship the broken one to you, I can.

Tell me what you'd like to do so we can consider this resolved and maintain our standing. Obviously we both could have tried a little harder.

Thumbs down Oulaw?? Bad install=broken Lsx....unresolved after 3 months!!!!!!!

I am pretty sure by me posting this that it is hopeless.
That the second this is seen, the .00005% chance that he'd come thru will be negated, but I don't give a fu*k.

I am sooooooo done. This is a warning for all.
You are seriously illiterate if you go to this shop.

It may have cost me $900 to tell you all this since he basically said in good faith he would help me since me starting this thread ruined him anyway so technically he didn't have to bother.
And he asked that I not bump this.

I did my part and its been since 8/23 my last "unresolved" bump.
That's 2.5 months for the record.

3 months to get me an intake the Byunspeed sent me in 2 days?????????????

I warned you, now read on....................

The last convo was he'd pay me $650 if his buyer did not pay after the weekend. It is now thur night, with no update and daily emails from me asking for such. I have been ducked and ducked. I am done, did I mention that?

In the least, I DEMAND my broken intake be returned to me.
It was received by him on 9/10
http://wwwapps.ups.com/WebTracking/p....x=0&track.y=0

Its not a free-bee. It is mine, broken parts and all. I need a door stop. Send it back to me now and let it stand for the incompetence that you see here.

I have been more than patient!!!!
My wife thinks I'm a dumb *** for being so gullible.

Here is our whole convo:

Keep in mind I may have missed some parts since he didn’t respond to many of my wordy ones and he just replied to an old email, leaving out some parts.......

I keep seeing good comments on you in the sponsor section, but I seem to be
Last on your list.
It has been over 2 months. Look from my eyes for a second. If you were me,
Would you think you're getting the run-around?

Every day/week comes an update of, next week, tomorrow or just no reply.
Can you just take care of me please?
I have done nothing but be patient. I have eaten the cost of shipping, time,

cost of a new intake, labor, finance fee, etc. We both know I had nothing to

do with why my intake broke but I am forced to wait and
wait..................

Please help.
Maybe respond with more than a 3 word reply so I know you are interested in
solving this.

sorry, out of room.

Also, unmentioned in my 1st post since I found it a month ago.
During removal of my rockers we found that I was missing 3 of the bolts that hold the coil on. They are the two back ones (left andr ight side) and the second to last one on the rightside...Coincidentily, those are the hardest 3 bolts to get to on the coils, so I am assuming that Outlaw "forgot" to put those ones on.
No one has touched the top of my engine except them.

But regardless, I want what is right and admitted from the beginning, and thats my intake replaced ASAP.

FYI:

I just filed with the BBB.

I also found an email from him I mentioned earlier claiming how he would help even thought he didn't have to.

Tony, I am lost. You said you get the emails on your phone. I emailed you yesterday evening.>Not sure what you need me to do. I offered to send the broken one to you and asked how to go about credit or part. Please let me know so we can settle.

Unfortunately it is time to step it up and file a claim in small claims court against them, send a copy of the compliant to your State Attorney General.

Keep all the documentation of email, pm, phone calls, in person visits - print whatever you can for a judge to look at. Cyber conversations are now considered 'proof of evidence' in courts. Any pictures you have (before, during and after) are a huge help.

File for the costs so far though you cannot file for time missed at work unless this was your only means of transportation OR you were asked by Outlaw to take time off work to go to their shop. You can also file to have any and all broken parts returned to you as part of the settlement.

It sucks you will have to go this route but it seems there is no other way. Anyone who had any clout here tried yet it has been the decision by Outlaw to ignore it.

Thanx guys!!!

I will let it die now.
If my thread saves someone else from a nightmare like this, I can get over the loss.

Just cause you can turn a wrench doesn’t necessarily mean you can run a business.

I will put together something and see what the state can do.
I have every email from him saying he'd take care of this.
Of course if (and when) he goes under, you cant get blood from a turnup............

And Young, you made me blush!!!

Quick Reply: Outlaw?? Incorrect install of intake.....Intake broke and Outlaw is LOA??
