Learn how to use the scanner function first, make sure that you understand what data you need to scan and what it means. I probably spent a month reading up on fuel injection control systems, reading tuning "how to" stickies and experimenting with different ways to analyse the scanner data before doing anything with the tune.

Tuning with fuel trims will only get you so far, and are useless when PE mode is active, as fuel trims are deactivated in PE. I strongly recommend that you purchase a wideband and tune your VE and MAF in "open loop" mode.

Deactivate DOD/AFM when tuning your VE and MAF. The airflow characteristics of the engine are just too different between V4 and V8 mode.

And what he said, make sure you save a copy of your original tune, and don't screw with it. Make sure you always have an original copy to revert to just in case of a **** up. I actually made mine "read only" so I couldn't save changes to it.

read. read. read. i can not stress that enough. if you have never tuned a car, regardless of make or model, or engine for that matter. do major home work before you even attempt anything.

With the Scanner connected and the key on, open the DTC screen:

Click on the DTC tab of the pop-up and there you go.

To turn off trouble codes, you have to open your tune in the editor, open the Diagnostic screen, find the DTC you want to turn off, then change the setting to "3 - no error reported", save the change and write the new tune to your ECM.
