Default really thinking about going all out on the GXP!!!

i have really been thinking lately about going all out(audio/video,, and of course PERFORMANCE).. i would really like to have around 550+ hp and still have DOD. but the only problem is i am not 100% on what to get (cam, rockers and spring) like company,, style,, and what not.

would like to have advice on both ends audio/video, and performance

thanks

I'm not sure about getting 440+ at the wheels from an LS4 with only cam, heads, & rockers. Well, there's the nitrous option. Other than that the Cartuning turbo kit, but before anything you need a stronger tranny.

i meant all the mods i need to get to 550 i know i would have to build the tranny like GXPJAY did, and i will prolly most deffinatly do the turbo kit,, but its really eithier modding this or using it as a dd and going andgetting a t/a or ss and modding it, still unsure

This car is comfortable and pretty powerful for a DD. IMO I'd leave it as is besides basic boltons and instead mod a ls1 f-body. You can find them with heads/cam & 430rwhp already for about 12k-14k or less in some cases.

x2 on the F-Body. These cars are above average D/D's.

The W is by far a better all around platform, but the F was purpose built for racing and modification.

Plus the massive aftermarket ...

just get a f-body camaro for like 5k and pop like a turbo ls7 in it and call her good for less than 20k. the motor will be worth more than the car tho. i saw my insurance company offers addon coverage for aftermarket stereo and i suppose you could insure the motor extra.

ya adding power and then adding weight just doesn't make sense, you have to pick. You can't go all out on both, you will still be slow, all that weight on your rear tires will make your fronts spin like crazy with all that power.

Tell you what; you do what it takes to get 550 horses (crank or wheel, don't matter) and the attendant torque and I will race you all day long in the 8th mile (you know, mimicing the maximum speed/acceleration that a street driven car sees 99.99+% of the time) with my mere 320 (est crank) horse Impala for cash. You will not be able to launch, you will not be able to go WOT under 60 MPH without spinning, in short, you will have turned a your quick dd into an expensive highway-only runner. If that is what you are looking for, great! But how often are you going to be exercising your GXP at triple digit speeds?

Might be one of those instances where you have to be careful what you wish for.

The turbo is the only way you'd get those HP numbers out of an LS4. Although if you're going to look at an f-body I'd stay away from one that's already modded. And as for the turbo LS7 idea that's a complete waste of time. The LS1 is fine and a great platform to start from that can make huge HP numbers. LS7's aren't cheap.

In the end I guess it all depends on what you want to do with it. Are you planning on going to the track ever? If not there's no point in having that kind of power and spending $7k+ just to say you have that much power. I'm all for having something different that no one else has, but personally I think it's a waste of money on these cars.

And with an f-body that's a reasonable goal.

11s are easily doable in an LS1 with H/C and bolt ons. 10s would need a little more money involved and some weigh reduction, assuming you're wanting to do it N/A.

As for the "Drop 5K on A/V and call it a day": REALLY?! What is the point of something like that? Drop $5K on a HOME A/V setup, that at least has a point. A nice 50" HDTV for $3K~ and then the $2K for a killer surround system. I get so confused when people want to put a shitload of audio in a performance vehicle. All the people dropping 100+lbs of weight in F-Bodys, I don't understand it. My car came with factory 10 speaker setup, and I'm sure all it weighs a good 40-50lbs, but it sounds amazing! I absolutely love it and would only upgrade the speakers quality and try to still keep the size down. It puts out the perfect amount of bass, mids and highs and really compliments any music you listen to due to the total immersion in the audio. It would be sweet to convert it to surround, since I do have a couple surround sound DVDs (Nine Inch Nails has 2 or 3 of them).

Just do like my buddy, get the fancy stock DVD/Nav setup and then if you still need more, update the speakers to better quality. Bigger isn't always better.
