08 GXP comments I bought a new Black 08 GXP in august, love the handling and the power is nice as well . currently have 5000 miles on it without a hiccup. pretty much afraid to beat on it much with all the tranny problems i have read about here and on other LS4 fwd forums. I can understand maybe having a weak tranny the first year they came out with the GXP but theres no excuse for not correcting the issue in later years. hell the warranty costs for G.M to replace transmissions must be astronomic. I'll enjoy my car for another year or so then it's getting traded in on a G8 GXP or something along those lines. I can't believe the drop in value that my car took already. I think half of that is due to all the grand prixs that were bought by the rental car companies and then flooded the market as "program cars"
i've got a 05 with 60000 miles and no trans issues. FYI the G8 is not selling as well as they hoped and they may stop selling them in 2010. The G8 GXP may never make it into production, these are all rumours but the way GM is going, pontiac may get the axe in total.

Looked at a G8 GXP last week. $38K!?!?! Great price for one in this economy!
Yeah they're not selling because nothing is selling. No one is going to part with $40K when we don't know if we will have a job in three months.
Then there's the issue of whether or not you can even get a loan ...
These aren't the type of cars you "beat on". You need an F-body or a Mustang for that, and then you will still trash the automatics.

You paid sticker or invoice for your GXP? Ouch! I paid 18k for my 08 with 16k miles back in May of 08 and now and it hurts me what they go for now, can't imagine how you'd feel! lol but you're right, being part of a rental fleet is part of it. BTW I've put almost 16k miles so far and I haven't had any issues with the tranny yet, but there is the 100k powertrain warranty so no worries son! Go out and enjoy your (fwd) beast.

Holden does look a little better, you can get the Holden front ends, wheels, etc. but it cost alot of $$$. If I had one I'd get the HSV front end and the HSV wheels.
And yea the GXP's should be out now. G8 will last as long as Pontiac does or until Holden redesigns the Commodore, whichever comes first, since Pontiac has no plans on bringing over the new Commodore whenever that comes out.
As far as depreciation, The SS's are just as bad if not worse. But any car will depreciate significantly in the first year, just common sense. That's why you're better off buying a slightly used one with 10k on the clock or so, let someone else take that depreciation. My next vehicle is definitely going to be something slightly used.
As far as the trannys, don't be afraid to drive the car. People who baby their cars have had them go out. If it's gonna go it's gonna go, might as well have fun with it. And perhaps it doesn't really benefit them to put in a stronger tranny, we don't really know how many of them are going, you're just seeing people on forums who said their's have went, and they may very well be in the minority. The majority of LS4 owners, and car owners in general are not car enthusiasts who mod their cars and come on forums. So maybe as a whole they aren't failing as much as you're led to believe on here.
