Default GXP VS. Cobalt SS/TC

Well, it's going down for the first time this weekend. I know the outcome will be different when he mods his car but I finally get to run my GP GXP versus an 09 SS/TC. This is going to be awesome. 260hp/tq versus 303hp/tq but a thousand pounds difference in weight.

I'll be praying for both of you.

I remember recently pulling an invoice on the Turbo SS Cobalt and finding they were around 3,000#. Hard to believe the GP with the 5.3 is 1,000# more.

I called Jake my dog at home. He says both cars, STOCK, should run 14.2. The Cobalt might have an edge. Is this a measured 1/4 mile? It would be fun to watch good luck.

Yes the newer 260 hp. Cobalts are faster than the older 205 hp ones.

Jake also wanted me to remind you of something else. My 1997 Z24 Cavalier "WON" the First J-Body Quick 8 drag race ever held, ever.

When we went to Lordstown Ohio GM had no idea anyone raced Cavaliers. That anyone was interested in Cavaliers. Our efforts caused GM to get off their *** and build a little pocket rocket. In the process the ECO engine was born. Far better than the old 2.4 LD-9.

Thanks to Nitrous Express my little full interior AUTOMATIC car, on street tires, dipped into the 13's at over 100 mph on a regular basis.

I wonder how us Monte SS guys would fare then...

The GP GXP's weigh 3,600lbs and the MCSS weighs 3,490lbs....

Also the Camaro is close to the MCSS as well...3,524lbs(Z28).

100lbs is .10, on the street that's nothing. They are both about 14.0 sec cars, should come down to driver and conditions or who leaves early lol

In a 1/4 your about a 14.0 flat according to the best magazine racing I could do. Which means you can accelerate as fast as a 350Z, but don't try to hang with it on a road course.

Yeah, but it is not 100lbs, probably more like 800.

GXP's stock tire size and compound give it a traction advantage over the Impys and Monte Carlos though You guys do have a weight advantage though.

The GXP's have run stock 13.8's on numerous occasions, I've seen the sheets. It's all in hookin' up. The 4 door SS/TC cobalt was quoted at 13.8 quarter mile in motor trend. If we were racing from a dig I would say he has the advantage. However, we're goin from a 40 or 60 roll therefore I will have the advantage. Mid powerband and full traction

So, the race can be won on the tree?

You've got to love drag racing. Started over 50 years ago and hasen't changed a bit.

Two drivers flap their mouths, pull into the lights, the lights come down, a slower car on paper can beat a faster car.. Thank you Mr. Parks!

Definitely will be a driver's race. Now if they hit a track, my money'd be on the N-ring tuned suspension of the Cobalt. It did tie the previous gen M3 around the ring, and that thing was pushing 333 ponies.

Ummm....your point was originally that 100lbs would mean 0.1 seconds on the track. So....correct me if I am wrong, 800lbs would be a lot closer to 0.8 seconds instead of 0.08. Starting with a close to a second head start (if my weight estimate and your rule of thumb are both close) IS a big deal.

i raced one a few weekends ago. He was stock. I took him with no trouble and i wasnt even racing him. I was racing the two e46 m3s next to me. They were supercharged and raped me. But the cobalt had nothing on me.

So they gain close to 80-90hp from a tune? I would like to see that.
