How do you remove the gold part of the bow tie from the front grill? As always, I appreciate everyone's help w/ my abundance of questions.

heat it up to loosen the glue, and pull/peel it off... there's also a plastic "tab" on the remaining bowtie outline on the grill that you'll have to cut off or sand/grind down to make that section flat so you can stick on the SS emblem or whatever else you were planning to put there.

Thanks for the info, I am actually wanting to get the decal from http://www.grafxwerks.com. It states that the chrome outline stays on the grill and the decal just goes in the center. Is that true? I would like to keep it if possible.

aaah... dunno about that... I took my whole thing off and put an SS in it's place...

I'm sure just the gold center portion is also only a stick on... you'll just have to be careful pulling that part out so you don't mess up the chrome backing.

everything else is blacked out on the car, I don't know why they put chrome on those and then also the chrome trim around the friggin grill... should'a made it all black... uugghhh...

LOL

the grafxwerks inlay will sit in the stock chrome piece. I havent tried the grafxwerks piece, but I read that they are not so great. I painted my gold piece two days ago, and they came out better then I could ever hoped for. But def. heat it up, cause I didnt and one snapped in half. They dont have a lot of give. But $10 on a can of black and clear, is better than $50, in my book..

I've had the grafxwerx bowtie for over a year now and love it. Looks like it came stock.

Heat up the gold part with a blowdryer and find something thin enough to get in-between the gold and the chrome, then start prying it off. I think I used a pocket knife? Be careful not to damage the chrome outline.

I'll see if I can find a pic...

This pic was taken for the headlights, but you can see the bowtie...

I been thinking there should be an SS emblem up front. Anyone got a good closeup pic of that?

Thanks for the info. I will be ordering a grafxwerx decal to replace that awful gold bow tie.

Looks good thanks.

Most Impala SS through the years did not have the SS in the grille. I think maybe the 70 was the only one. However that is the one I remember most.

Did you just go to a dealership and order the same size badge as the ones on the side of your car? Or did you get a bigger size to fill in the gap when you took off the entire front bow tie. Oh, and two other other questions, how did you take off the entire bowtie (chrome and all) and how did you get the SS emblem to stick there?

You need one from the side of the car. There are plenty available at decent prices on Ebay.

Use a blowdryer to heat up the bowtie and pry it off. Be careful, the area behind the bowtie is thin, so you don't want poke through it. Some guys use fishing line to cut through the adhesive. There is an alignment tab that sticks out of the mounted surface, so keep that in mind, you'll need to get around it. Once it's off, there will be alot of adhesive still on the surface, so you'll need some Goo Gone (or comparable product) to get that crap off B4 you can properly mount the SS.

Get some 3M double sided automotive tape at your local parts house to mount the SS.

I wonder how the one from grafxworks will look with a black bowtie and black SS letters. That's how I intend on ordering mine. When I do it of course.
