Default LS4 belt tension

My deepest sympathies to the unfortunate soul that ever has to replace one of these.

I'm in the process of doing mine at the shop, GM warranty pays 1.2 hrs, and I have 2.5 hrs in it just to remove it. Every bolt has to be wrenched out completely by hand, you cant remove them by finger.

I hope the guy who designed it rots in hell.

He is replacing the tensioner not just removing the belt.

Belt removal is actually pretty easy. Just get a long pry bar with a flat edge on it. Remove passenger wheel. Place the flat edge of pry bar on top of the tensioner spring and pry down with one hand while you reach over the fender and pull the belt off one of the pulleys. Installation is the same. I have done this many times.

lol yeah dude! I have well over 40 hrs for the week and they were giving me BS oil changes on corvettes, so I was like what the heck, good time to do my belt tensioner. Its been making noise for a month or two. Warranty time was 1.2 hrs and procedure looked easy enough. 2.5 hrs later I got the new one on and I just gotta go in tomorrow to throw on the new belt and put the fuse block and stuff back where it belongs. I would have not been aggravated at all if the labor time was 3.0 hrs to do this job, but 1.2 is impossible.

Therefore, I guess I should be pissed at the guy who made the labor time, not so much the guy who designed the tensioner.

How much does a rear main seal pay?

I felt bad for the guy who had to replace my leaky rear main.

*edit* Don't feel bad though, Nissan only pays 4.3hrs for tranny replacements in 3.5L Maximas, takes 4-5 hours if you're bustin ***. Come think about it, Nissan pays pretty bad for 80% of warranty jobs.

5.7 hours warranty for a rear main seal.

We just had a guy do one here a few weeks ago and it took him at least 8hrs or more.

just changed mine.. cause i broke the plastic pulley in the process of changing the belt.. trying to take the tension off it with a crowbar.. and well had a shop replace it. costing me double.and a week later had the belt mess up again. so now im just gunna take it to Stealership and let them replace the belt and align everything up correctly for 190 dollars.. =/
