Yeah, but the 1" chain isn't available from ZZP anymore. They're out. They sold the last ones at $1200 each. I wish someone in the aftermarket would begin producing them.

It came out wrong, but that's what I meant. Dave said the stock chain is good until you start running mid 12s on slicks, and then it will break after a few passes. He said high 12s are fine, which is my target. He also said that if you can hit mid 12s on slicks, but keep your street tires on and run high 12s, you are still good. I got the impression, and it makes sense, that 1st gear + a hard launch is what snaps the chain, not the amount of power you run through the trans.

1-2 shift at WOT is what will snap the chain, street tires or slicks it will snap.

I have a question. Now that the 1" chain is moot, I wonder about the 7/8" vs. the 15/16" chains. Intense seems to prefer the 15/16" while TEP uses the 7/8" (which is what I went with). I poked around some websites and forums and the consensus is that neither is stronger than the other but the 15/16" will snap while the 7/8" will stretch (both bad in their own way).

TEP said the 7/8" is good for about 400-450 whp. Anyone know if that's true for the 15/16"? I'm just curious since others will be getting their transmission rebuilt I think it might be good to see if anyone has first hand experience.

That makes sense... I already chirp the tires during a WOT 1-2 shift. I wonder how the chain would hold up to an all-motor 1-2 shift and a 2-3 shift near the end of a 100HP wet shot. Less of an RPM change, but more torque on the chain.

According to Intense's website, they mount the 15/16" chain on the same 3/4" sprocket that they use with the 7/8" chain, and they claim that the shock load resistance is the same for both chains. They also claim that the 15/16" doesn't stretch as easily (fatigue is the word they used). Without knowing, I'd guess that power capacity is therefore similar. I'd also guess that the reason you heard of the 15/16" chain snapping is that you don't get the early warning of a stretched 7/8" chain slopping around and making noise for a while before it snaps.

I'd say run two chains and call it a day. It is kinda of discouraging the motor has so much potential but we are limited with the trans. I hope that with the prices of the cars falling and them getting into the hands of those of use that want a little more out of them the market will start to cater to us. The big problem though is price. Being the first usually hits the pockets bad.

PM sent.

Oh yeah! I am one happy customer!

Dave at TEP got the PCM/TCM re-programmed. I guess I'm the first 08 to have this done, because there were a lot of differences in the PCM compared to the 07 and earlier models. Took awhile, but it was worth it.

The gear ration change is definitely worth it! Much harder launches. In fact, my poor RS-A's can't even keep any traction from a WOT launch at 2500+ RPM. Those tires are pathetic. Some tire upgrades may be in order this summer.

The shifts are so fast and crisp, I was very impressed. This is my first performance transmission, by the way. I can't sing the praises of TEP enough. He really went above and beyond to get me up and running.

Talk about making this car even better. I know I still get bashed on for FWD, but I just showed my friend what this baby can do. Ha ha!

They don't make them anymore. I've seen used ones being sold for over 1k.

Unreal.

We have a car running 630 WHP and a 15/16th chain. Hasnt broken yet. However its been reccommended to change it every 25-30,000 km.

Cheers

Does anyone know that when you change your ratio, you have to get a tune to make it run right?

Side note: How much power is the 4t65 rated for?
