I am such a newb when it comes to cars so bear with me. I pretty much only know the basics but I came to this forum because I purchased an 06 impala ss back in september and im looking for a little guidance as far as mods i can do to it. I dont want to void the warranty or anything but i would like to add some hp and also make it look better than it already does. im just looking for your advice and different input because you guys have the same vehicle that i have. thanks.

The new more realistic standards say 16/26, but EPA testing is done in a lab with speeds under 65mph. Based on my own experimenting, if you turn DOD off it doesn't really matter how fast you go but with DOD on you should stick to 70mph and get a run on hills. This car is really sensitive to your right foot. The GXP, with it's sticky summer tires, is only rated at 16/25. The way I look at it though, the fact that you can get terrible mileage is a good thing because burnt fuel = power!

To be honest i dont floor it or anything. I try to stay in 4 cylinder mode as much as possible. I even set the cruise control to about 55 to 60 MPH and just cruise. Somebody at work told me to get a Cold Air Intake. would that help any?

Welcome.

It wouldn't hurt. Same with the throttle body spacer. Those should both help.

welcome, first thing is probably not the best car to buy if looking at gas mileage as all of us know, and cold air intake and TB spacer. not really anything that is going to make a huge difference in gas mileage.

check to make sure your tires are inflated to the correct pressure. that helps MPG a lot.

check on the door (by where the latch is on the side), usually will have a sticker that will state the correct tire pressure, and car wieght and stuff.

Welcome to LS4 tech. I had good luck with K&N intake & a tune. Depending on how much you want to do maybe a K&N drop in and find someone with a good reputation to tune with HPtuners. I don’t know any thing about the hand held tuners (except Diablo Sport has no trans support). Maybe someone else can chime in.
