Default GXP spare Tire

Alright...So I know the GXP does NOT come with a spare tire, but I got a flat last month and my dad has been bugging the **** out of me about getting a doughnut. Has anyone ever tried putting a spare in the trunk? If I ever get a flat and I need to use it, will it fit with our brake set-up?? I really want to get him off my back cause he can be annoying after a while HAHA. But I still love him

You can use a Bonneville 17" spare for the GXP's. You may be able to find them on e-bay.

Couldn't find the bonneville spare, but I found the Impala SS spare: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/CHEVY...Q5fAccessories

Would this work also?

No clue. You just have to make sure it clears the front brakes.

What if it's for a 96 Imp. SS? It doesn't tell you a year. I know we need a 5 X 115 bolt pattern.

Ur right it doesn't give a year. I really do not want one, but better safe than sorry I guess. My dad was pissed because I had to use his car to go to school the day after I got the flat. I Got the flat late at night and I did not have enough time to go to my local tire shop. Since then he has been on my back about getting a spare.

You could always mount a tire on this for a spare. This will fit and is cheap enough...

It probably won't fit in the hole in the trunk though, right?

Do a search for my posts. I posted some pics of the spare I got from an online salvage yard cheap. I havnt bothered to see if it will fit in the well yet but it should if you get the jack kit from a regular grand prix, at least thats what I have heard. You will need the jack kit anyway, the spare isnt the only thing the general left us hanging on.

No, no matter how long you pound it with a rubber mallet it will not fit in there.

Time for a Continental Kit for the GXP!

I think that's what I got at the local salvage yard.

I'm out of forum here but what about the 17" GTO compact spare. I got two for track use(with new rubber of course), they have a lot of brake clearance, light, and somewhat small sized. Gl

I did not know that gxp's didn't have a spare tire. I wonder why they didn't. My wife's gtp comp g has one. (thank god, i had to use it!) did they leave it out to save weight?

Spending $50+ on a spare tire seems kind of pointless tho. I saw the post in one of the links about the DTS spare, but again it's a lot of $$. I'll check my junkyard to see if there are any there, but I highly doubt it. I went there to get a mirror for an 02 MCSS and they said they didn't have any newer cars there. I took that as a lot of BS becasue they saw a 21 year old kid going to a junkyard probly trying to steal some stuff LOL.

I don't think the 94-96 Impala SS spares will have the brake space you need for the GXP.

I figure it's because of the staggered setup. Of course GM didn't give the G8 a spare either. Guess it was just cheaper.
