people with radar detectors chime in

I have always had good results with Cobra detectors. I am not sure which model I have but it was like $150. Also, it mostly depends on the equipment your local law enforcement uses... Greece, NY and El Paso, TX don't seem to buy new radar guns, ever.

yea.. when i had the beltronics radar detector for a while i was picking up mostly ka band. it sucks though because we have motorcycle cops in Springfield,IL and i haven't figured it out yet but im pretty sure they use laser radar... and if they do and they radar you then your screwed and ur getting a ticket if your speeding.

thats good to hear. i feel more comfortable knowing that there aren't any cops up the road before i race someone. i wish i could afford the escort red line but its a little too much. i have performance parts to buy for the monte still ;]

Ive got s 8500 X50 from the Escort ebay page. I've always been a fan of radar detectors. As long as you know how they work and realize you are not invincible it's worth the cost. Laser is a bitch, but you have to be smart. If your driving 120 down the highway all by yourself not too many radar detectors are gonna help unless you have a lazy cop.

I've got a cheap cobra that I've had for over 3 years now and it still works pretty good. Unless you get a laser blocker, it doesn't really matter. Most LEO's are switching to laser cause its harder to beat that in court.

I've used Valentine 1 going back to the 1990s. At four bills they're expensive, but a ticket + insurance hike is too.
To me the directional arrows are a great feature. Tactically you need to know where the signal is coming from.
RDs don't only work for scofflaws, they can also alert you of a situation up ahead because cops working crashes almost always run their radars.
They know there will be some RDs in the passing traffic and those folks will slow down the traffic flow.
V1 does not give voice alerts like some other high-end jobs do, but I'll take the arrows over the voice or GPS camera locators. Just my preference.

GPS is more than just speed cameras...some have an auto learn feature if you drive past the same spot so many times and the radar always goes off it ignores that particular band in that particular spot. These can be added and removed manually as well.

I guess they're making enough $$ without it.

bought me a Whistler Radar detector, didnt wanna spend too much $ on one and read online to stay away from cobra's, and that the whistlers got good reviews, i also have a old school whistler, it only detects K band tho haha,. where i live its pretty much all radar with a little bit of laser. the police departments are low on $ so they cant upgrade there systems so there still on X and K band. anyone else have a Whistler?
