LS4 rebuilt to LS6?
Perhaps this is a stupid question, has anyone thought of increasing the bore of their LS4 to be an LS6? Using the LS4 block,crank,water pump,etc but use forged LS6 pistons,cam,intake?

i think the block would have to be re sleeved which most will say is not the most desirable option go for higher compression heads a bigger cam and free flowing everything im not sure if we can stroke these motors or not..... but that could be an option too.

First off. We can put a 4" crank in the block and make a 383. You *can* resleeve it to a larger bore but the cost is not worth the effort and gain. If you want power. Do a custom grind cam, LS6 intake, and spray a 125 shot. Build the transmission and buy some wrinkle wall tires, fab up some travel limiters for the suspension and put adjustable struts out back with some heightening springs.
Or take the same money and buy something that doesn't have serious traction issues with 270 whp.

Someone is selling an 07 imp motor on here us it as a project,be the first to stroke that motor out and keep you car running... If your still under warranty,you don't have to worry about voiding yours...

The problem with stroking it is the small bore. It will shroud the intake valve and not let the heads breathe. If something was to happen to my motor I’d order a 370 boost and have the crank turned down. Everything else should bolt on.

These engines can be stroked and bored to be a 383. You just have to have a machime shop shave the crank down on the front snout and the rear flange to meet the factory shaved specs. According to GM, "The crankshaft is shortened 13 mm – 3 mm at the flywheel end and 10 mm at the accessory drive end – to reduce the length of the engine compared to the 6.0L. All accessories are driven by a single serpentine belt to save space. I already purchased a brand new Ls4 block that I'm going to do this with, as well as other things. How's it going to shroud the intake valve??? Makes no sense.. The bore is going to be opened up, there for the engine will draw in even more air. This engine is a 3.78in bore and can be bored to a 3.90 which is the Ls6 starting bore with the same heads... I'm baffled by the statement that its going to shroud the valves....

just for the record a 4" crank would make a 359 cube. Also, you could probably stroke the LS4 and have clearance but the crank is different than all the other Gen 3/4 engines so a custom one would have to be ground, unless you guys can get someone to make you one.

Stoking it would be the same as stroking any other LS block. Like you said, the LS4 crank is shorter, though. On a stock LS6 bore, the 4" crank would make an 383.

oh I thought you were talking about using the stock LS4 bore, but yeah you're right. But where are you going to get the crank from? Nobody makes one.
