LS4 Cam swap
I have a friend that wants one done, Ive done probably 25 cam swaps on fbodys, vettes, TBSS's, trucks, etc, but never have done a fwd 5.3. Book time calls for 18 hours and r&r on the engine. Is there a way to do it without droping the engine?

Any idea what kind of camshaft would be good for a daily driver? I'm basically looking for something that would provide more power yet retain a stock-like idle. Also I'd like to retain DoD. I'd be changing out the intake as well: LS1 or LS2 or LS6.

They make DoD cams but they're for the 6.0l G8 GT. So they'll be pretty big and won't make the best DD, so for this I recommend getting rid of DoD. For a good 5.3l DD cam I'd stay between 216/220 and 220/224. Too much more and you'll lose too much low end and too much less and you'll be wishing you had gone bigger.
For a daily driver I would go with a Lunati voodoo cam
Part Number: 20540710
Hydraulic roller. Excellent increase in torque and midrange power! Great LS-6 replacement performance camshaft. Works well with 5.3-5.7 liter engines.
•Advertised Duration (Int/Exh): 262/268
•Duration @ .050 (Int/Exh): 212/218
•Gross Valve Lift (Int/Exh): .531"/.531"
•LSA/ICL: 113/109
•Valve Lash (Int/Exh): Hyd/Hyd
•RPM Range: 1400-6200
•Includes: Cam Only
This one is very close to my cam which is pretty lumpy. I shift at 6800.
3.69 gears with a 3500-3800 stall is strongly recommended!

I'd really like to shift the power curve to the right.
Sure they make DoD/AFM cams for the G8 GT but maybe I should just get a custom one.
