Default I need your help guys...Engine Noise. Sounds Bad....

Just started this morning. I have had a weird noise at start up for the past month that only lasted about 1/2 second however, today it started making this noise. Im terribly nervous.

EDIT: Video is processing. If it says unavailable give it a second to finish processing on youtube.

No ****...

That has got to be fixed. Think a fresh oil change could help? It just sounds like **** outside the car.

Mine sounds worse and lasts for about 1-5 mins unless I Rev the **** out of my motor for about 1 min. I think its due to the ls7 springs. The extra spring pressure causes the lifters to bleed down a lot quicker. I only use 0-30 btw. Cold weather is to blame. When its above 60* I don't hear nothing but pulleys and exhaust. Pisses me off and I'm about to tear the whole freaking engine out and swap the can and lifters. Screws dod. I'm unemployed after Jan. So I'll have time. Or... I might just unloaded this car and start saving for something cooler. Ain't nothing wrong with driving my beater for awhile!

Yeah mines louder than that, but I also have 1.8's with LS6 springs and headers going through an open cutout. Most of my friends with f-body's sound the same.

Im thinking the same. The only thing thats allowed to "tick" in my book is POS Foreign Cars with little as 4 bangers. I just did a fresh oil change as It has never ticked before. It just started all at once when I started it, I thought it was a rod knock it was so loud at first. But I just did a oil change and im hoping it will clear out soon. I drove it 60 miles so far today and no change. It's actually louder than it appears in the video.

If it doesn't stop, the lifters will be replaced. No question about that.

I didn't but a V8, to have it sound like a time bomb

EDIT: Not trying to sound pessimistic or anything, just not very happy. Sorry

I believe GM has some bulletins out there that actually state with these particular engines some noise on start up is pretty common place. It sucks, but, that's how it is.

I wouldn't run super thin oil like that. When it's cold like that I always try to get some heat in the motor before driving it anyway and the noise is usually gone before driving. It should be fine, all it is is a lifter not pumped up all the way. If you're still under warranty, the dealer might replace all your lifters for you...

My Impala did this when I was using the cheap-*** NEW AC Delco oil filters. I switched to Wix and the problem has completely gone away. And I use M1 5w-30.

That sounds flat out like a bad lifter.... That does not sound like anything any "oil" is going to fix. Tear down time....

I am not too familiar with LSx lifters or rockers but I would see if the rocker lash is out of adjustment before replacing the rockers or lifters. Then again, the labor may be the same anyways... Good Luck.

This is a normal noise for an LSx motor, especially the LS4 with DoD. I wouldn't tear into it for a minute of tick on a cold morning.

Yes it might go away after oil comes to temperature or after the lifter pumps all the way up. But, there still will be a noise at start up and that is what he is complaining about.

If he wants his noise to stop he needs to replace the DOD lifters, convert to non- DOD cam/lifters, or sell it.

I also don't blame him. It sounds like garbage and I'd be pissed too. Even if it only did it for a minute. I'd be ripping out the DOD garbage.

The stockers are Non-Adjustable pedestal mounts. There is no love for him...
