Default Burning oil when switching to 8 cyl mode

I notice when cruising on the expressway at about 70-75 mph for a few miles that when it switches to 8 cyl mode my exhaust blows out a big puff of blue smoke. Anyone ever experience this?? My car also goes through a quart of oil every 1500-2000 miles.

It's a known issue with those engines. It's the dod system. Get it disabled and your problem will go away.

Yes disable DOD as soon as possible!

Youll lose about 1-2 mpg on the highway, city stayed the same for me about because its rarely in 4 cyl mode then anyways..

When I had 4 cyl mode I would burn a quart or so every 5k, sometimes a little more..

I disabled DOD about a month or so ago, and got an oil change the day before I disabled it..I have not lost any oil since...Ive put on I think roughly 3.5k to 4k miles since.

Is it as simple as getting the computer reprogramed to disable it? If so where can I do it around NW suburbs of chicago?

Mine just started to do this and since I'm under gmpp still till the end of the month it's going to the dealer. I saw a post involving something about this issue that gm actually acknowledges this problem. Found the pdf for it. http://ww2.justanswer.com/uploads/Bl...alve_cover.pdf

They acknowledge it but it'll take a year for them to fix it right. After all the oil tests and everything. Dod isn't that special. It's simple just to disable it an forget it

I just posted this on clubgp, but I'll post again anyway, with at least my experiences and I know quite a few other people on this board:

"If you're using Mobil 1, it's known to burn faster than any other synthetic on this car (it's also one of the thinnest synthetics to slip through the piston rings). Check the ls1 forums (ls4 sub forum) for more details. Other synthetics seem to burn slower, but yes there is still consumption no matter what on these in 4 cyl mode. Since I switched to Pennzoil Platinum, I consume only 1 qt every 3,500-4,000 miles as opposed to the 2 qts every 2,000 miles when I was using Mobil 1. Just my 2 cents."

I've used Mobil 1 oil exclusively in my Monte SS since 9000 miles... I'm now at just about 109,000 miles...

never burned 1 drop....

my DOD is disabled - has been for the past 5.5 years... 4 months after I bought the car brand new...

it's the DOD causing the issue... NOT the oil....

I know it's the DOD, but Mobil 1 didn't help. I'm just reporting my results and I haven't touched the DOD, the fact that I burn an entire 1 qt less in more miles says something. I know there's others that have reported the same problem with Mobil 1 in this car. But yes the DOD is the main culprit, but just giving an "imo." lol

No. All it does is stop the engine from disabling 4cylinders. It will run as a norm v8

Call and see who can do a better deal. Maybe if you need a tune I'd go to speed and kill two birds with one stone
