gxp exhaust help!
#21
i had one of them in place of my resenator with a 2.5" custom exhaust all the way back and it was really loud drone wise but sounded perfect on the outside, one of the best exhaust notes i have ever heard. But i have a 1 1/2 year old and its my DD so the drone had to go so i threw on a couple regular magnaflows. Im actually thinking about throwing some on my camaro.
i guarantee no one has those magnaflow bullets. they re around $60-$70ish a piece and they have absolutly no rasp and they are loud.
The only problem with magnaflow is everybody has them ha im really leaning towards xr1s right now. Still have dod, i just got the car couple weeks ago and i havent had it tuned yet. a video of those bullets would be nice if anyone has one? Once i sell my w7 ill get some new mufflers and other goodies.

i did the muffler delete and it was a little loud for me. what i ended up doing is buying a flowmaster race muffler knock off with a single in dual out and just replaced the y-pipe and tail pipes. probably have less then 75 in it.
the muffler took the harshness out of it.
actually got a little seat of the pants improvement too.

finally decided to get 2 classic chambered powersticks and leave the res on for now. Gonna see how it sounds for a bit with the res on, should be plenty loud but still pretty smooth. Whats the stock piping for these cars from manifolds back? I want all 2.5 so do i just cut off after the res and do 2.5 or is it smaller before that also?

I bought some aftermarket tips and it turns out that our stock mufflers are not offset and the stock tips are offset to fit through the bumper cutout.
My question to you all who have made the change: What style/type of muffler do I need to get to keep my stock piping but at the same time, use these new tips?

I know I'm bumping a topic from 2011, but it's exactly what my question is.
TISmyBOOMSTICK, did you end up getting a louder, but still smooth, bellowing sounding exhaust on your GXP?
I've listened to several Magnaflow clips on youtube, and it sounds like it drones too much for my taste, but I like that it doesn't pop or rasp. But at $850 + installation, it's out of my price range.
I'm curious about the Classic Chambered Powerstick mufflers or what other options exist.
Since the GXP has two mufflers, has anybody ever just done an electric cutout on just one muffler?

Not sure it's exactly the answer your looking for, but if you put a cutout at the downpipe it won't matter if you have one or two mufflers. Dual muffler are more about appearence, a single 3" pipe should flow better than two 2.5" pipes.

turbo Ls4, do you have a video you can show me that compares the idle of all three? Closed cutouts, open one before the cat, open one after the cat?
Is the one after the cat before OR after the resonator on your car?

Your results will be way different cause his car is turbo, you need a n/a vehicle to be accurate

mandrel
if you wanted to you could get mandrel bent exhaust and then just add mufflers or straight pipe it. its nice and loud, theres a youtube video of mandrel on a gp gxp. sounds mean and loud on its own, you should check it out
