Default GXP hesitating

2008 GXP daily driver w/114k mi completely stock

This problem only seems to happen at about 40mph and above. I'll be cruising along just trying to maintain speed, step on the gas just a little to gain a mph or two and the car may hesitate then go or vibrate/shutter a little then go or sometimes vibrate/shutter a clunk or two then go. If I actually step on the gas, it responds fine. I haven't noticed anything at all at slow speeds or from a stop. It does this in both drive and manual(staying in one gear and trying to accelerate). I've also forced a CEL which I've read defeats DOD(please correct me if I'm wrong) and it still happens.

Any thoughts?

I don't know what forcing a CEL means, or what code you got when you did that. I would clean the MAF with some CRC MAF cleaner and see if it helps.

I unplugged the oil pressure sending unit , which causes a check engine light, which keeps the car from switching into 4cyl mode or at least I've read. I wanted to be sure the problem wasn't the car coming out of 4cyl mode.

Thanks for the idea.

Sounds more like torque converter lock up than DOD engaging. Has the transmission been serviced or replaced? This has some info that may be helpful.

Yeah definitely transmission related. This is the second time I've trailered a GP home from work.

I left work and got about 2 miles and the transmission just stopped working, no forward gears and no reverse, so there I sat about half way down an onramp. I left it sit for 5 or 10 minutes while I made a few phone calls, started it back up it shifted right into gear and I took off and it worked fine for another couple miles until I found a better place to pull over and wait for the trailer. Once I got it home it didn't make 50ft before it complete gave up again.

I'm no transmission expert but I know these cars are notorious for their transmission problems, so any input will be appreciated!

Thanks for the link.

Well, I ordered a trans and stand alone cooler from TEP. I was hoping to never join that group but at least that's one thing on the car I won't have to worry about now.

Hell yea that's gonna be nice to be able to beat on it some without worrying!
What did you get exactly stage 1, and who's doing the work on it?

I got the stage 1, I don't drive the car very hard and maybe it's overkill but I didn't want to have to do this again.

The garage where I get it inspected is doing the work, they said $400, which I didn't think was bad. Most work I do myself but after seeing write-ups of guys doing it I thought it would be $400 well spent.

400 is an absolute steal, get it in writing.

Yea nice deal your getting. Are you buying the parts and having them install them or are they just removing the trans for shipping to tep?

Well, I've had the car back for a few weeks now and all is well. Although that $400 turned into around $850 because of a front motor mount, cv joint and a wheel bearing.
