Will bad LCA bushings cause an occasional clunk?

Just throwing parts at isn't the fix, you need to check everything.

Jack up the front end, put on stands, get a good flashlight or drop light, a pry bar, and start checking things.

Sure you may find it eventually, but won't be cheap.

I agree, it didn't sound like he was doing the work himself so it will be costly regardless. These cars are getting old, replacing parts isn't necessarily a bad thing but it is frustrating when the work put into it already has not fixed the issue. Invest in a louder stereo lol

These can be hard to find. Figure out how to recreate the noise without driving it. Like Forward and Reverse with brake on. Add throttle.
Put the car in Park and rock it forward and back. Steering left and right.
