Default 2007 or 2008 G6 GTP

Hey guys I need to get a new daily driver and am thinking about a 07 or 08 (when the come out) G6 GTP. Does anybody know much about these cars I have been to the Pontiac website and have read the specs but I'd like to get the actual reality from you guys. Thanks Scrappy

I think the G6 is a girl's car. No insult intended, just has too soft of body lines, like the Sunfire which it replaced. Not the right forum, but I'd get a Cobalt SS if you want economy.

Test drive a MCSS, I think you'll be impressed.

The G6 is the most popular car for girls, i saw it in a local poll in the paper a few weeks ago

If you want economy go buy a Toyota Yaris Hatchback

Well the G6 is quite a bit cheaper and it also comes with 4 doors so the MCSS is not an option.

I test drove an 06 G6 GTP coupe w/ manual and I actually liked it. For the amount of power the engine makes you would think it is quicker then it is. But just like the rest of us GM people the car is a pig and weighs almost as much as a Grand Prix so its not that quick. It is a nice drive and gotta love the stick in it, it's nice and smooth and has a pretty good feeling power curve. For what it is I think that it is a great car, but for the price then I would find something else. For a GTP be it coupe or sedan your looking at starting at $25k, by the time you get some good options on it it is still $27.5k and for that you can find alot better car. But in the long run your the one interested in it, and no one can make up your mind for you. Go test drive one and if you like it then proceed to the next step, if not then all it cost you was a little gas to get there and a little time to beat someones car.

Yeah - a Grand Prix with a 3800 will pull down 30 mpg on the highway. The 3800 is "strong enough" for just about all normal driving. You'll pass a lot of minivans.

You can get 'em pretty cheap, and they practically give them away on leases.

Chevy Imp will save you even more money, if you're looking for a 4-door for trans.

The G6 replace the Grand Am. The G5 replaced the sunfire.

Sorry, couldn't leave that uncorrected.

Never knew they even made a G5, so how "exciting" are they??? So I stand corrected. Studied the Pontiac website a little, don't get the G5 or the G6, get a GP.

Saw a nice looking Sunfire driver yesterday.

Welcome to the forums ...

The G5 has been available in Canada for some time now...it's relatively new to the US.

And i agree...no G5 or G6.

I've always thought the G6 sedan was sexy... even if it ain't fast. Go with what you want man, just as long as you don't buy a friggin' Toyonda!

i like the g6 gtp a lot. but in o6 the gtp had a 3.9 litre 260 horsepower v-6. i drove one with an auto and i was disappointed. never got to drive the stick. But in 07 the gtp got caddilacs 3.6 litre with more like 280 horsepower and more torque. But the dropped the manual and only offer a paddle shifter. Lame. im sooooooo tired of gms let down im moving onto BMW im going in the morning to order a 2007 BMW 335Xi. they wont be out till march but you can order them. Twin turbo 340horsepower, all wheel drive, manual transmission. SAID AND DONE i get exactly what i want just not from pontiac anymore. As i said in another post, the worlds leaving pontiac behind. Yu can spend 30k on 80s technology but i think ill spend 40k on tomarrows technology and get 4 times the car. sorry dont mean to rant but now that im moving on i see the error in my ways...its so sad i was obsessed with pontiac but how long can you hang on to hopes? the G6 gtp is really nice and hopefully for 2008 theyll bring back the manual, but im not just waiting around for gm to get its head outta its *** anymore. if they refuse to give us what we want well get it elsewhere. My advice- buy a lexus is250 or 325xi for the money. if you want to spend more theres the is350 and 328i and 335i.

The G6 is a pretty nice car, I rented one once and really liked it. It was an easy driving car and was set up pretty well. I even considered getting one. In a way, I wanted a slow car for my daily driver. I wouldn't drive like an asshat and there would be no temptation to modify it. If I wanted to go fast, I'd take out the TA.

The G5 is a rebadged cobalt, granted it's much better then the cavalier it replaced, it's too small. The grandprix is a pretty good bang for the buck car. The 3.8L is a tried and true engine. I was going to get another supercharged 3.8L grandprix but I got a good deal on a GXP so I went that route. If you shop the year end close outs, you can get some good deals. I was able to get my Grandprix at invoice and then I was able to redeem $2,000 worth of GM card earnings on top of that. Brought the $30,500 sticker down to $25,000 (better then I could've done with my dad's GM discount).

Next time try and get a better deal. I got several hundred under invoice on my 2007, in the September 2006 timeframe (right when 07s started to roll out). You can get a better deal if you try.

Anyone who uses employee or company discounts is a moron; I beat those prices by thousands

The 2006 3.9 OHV was 240hp. The 07 3.6 is DOHC with 252hp. Also, the 07 comes with a 6 speed auto, as opposed to the 4spd in the 06. Only the 3.9 is available with the 6 speed manual, and the only way to get that in 07 is an option package on the GT model.

Myself, I like the G6 sedan and think it would make a great daily driver. The coupe is certainly more "feminine". That's fine with me... leave the Firebird or GTO coupes for the guys and the girls can have the Grand Am/G6 coupes.

I like the G5 GT as well. It would make a nice little gas-saver.

G6 is nothing special, my freind has one Fully loaded and really I cant say much about the car. Its just like a normal heavy FWD GM car....Its a nice cruiser with some pep but thats about it.

I drive it alot, and beat on it a bit......I would go with a Import car over a G6, id rather own a SS super charged cobalt.

For looks, and as a NORMAL car its ok, has a great system in it and the seats are nice.

I have nothing else to say about it, Look into somthing else

The GXP doesn't have any more power. It's the same 3.6 as the GTP.
