Valve Tap??
Anywho, My Impala SS would get a valve tap like sound some cold mornings as well, though not every time. It did this up until it hit 10k miles or so. It normally only lasted a few minutes. I was nearly ready to take it to the dealer when it suddenly went away. 7k miles later, it hasn't done it once.
Perhaps one of the others here can give their experiences. I personally haven't worried too much about it since it left. Only because I'll prolly never convince a dealer to open her up to find out what it was.

On a hydraulic lifter set-up, it is usually due to lack of oil pressure allowing the lifter to pump itself up on a cold start.
Even my My 144k mileLT1 knocks at cold startup, but fine when she's warm'd up
