Default Cobalt SS wants to race

Ok, so my younger cousin just bought an 06 supercharged Cobalt SS. I haven't had the chance to drive it yet, but I hear they are pretty fast. All I know is that it has an Injen intake, nothing else. We'll race from a dig and a roll most likely, who should win this one? My car is all stock BTW.

Thanks!

lol no question about it you will win easily. Cobalts are not that fast
Its only 600 pounds lighter then a impala SS and only 200 HP you do the math from a stop they are a full second slower from 0-60. Unless you mess up some how you'll win everytime.

Don't be so sure about that. I just sold my 06 Supercharged SS about 2 months ago. I had Stage II, Extrude Honed Manifold and GM's performance exhaust. I also have my 06 Monte SS still. In 2nd and 3rd gear, it will pulls like a raped ape. So, pick your battles wisely. Basically I am saying, the 06 Cobalt depending if it has Stage II or not, will definitely take you, hands down. I know, I had both.

Well judging from his sentence and i'll quote "just bought" i'm sure its stock. Even with your little manifold i doubt you got more then 20 H/T out of it which in no way would put you under the 5.4 0-60. Will cut maybe a tenth off. But i'm sure you'll try to educate me so if and when you do please show me some #'s To get any decent numbers out of the cobalt you need a Stage II Supercharger Upgrade Kit

With all my mods, I dyno'd 222 at the wheels with my stage II etc etc. And the flattest torque curve the guy has ever seen. If I need to I will post the dyno. Anyways, I have owned both, not saying ones better then the other or anything. With the proper mods, its a respectable car and the second gear pull is definitely impressive and hard to get traction.

"not that fast" They also put down somewhere near 220 at the wheels and have 4.05 gears. From a stop you will probably get him because the cobalts are harder to launch, but from a roll it can very easily hand you your *** from 40-140. When I had my cobalt ss on the highway a trailblazer ss couldnt touch it, from a dead stop it kicked my ***.

My friend is looking at getting the Cobalt SS with the stage 2 package. I will try and get some pics and video for you guys when he does.

Is the cobalt really only 600lbs lighter then our cars? I would think it would be in the mid 2500 range. I believe our cars are 3400?

ANYTHING can take our cars in second gear.

The trans' gear selection is so stupid, mine won't drop 2 gears at WOT.

Manual shifting is a different story, but 2nd still sucks IMO.

Did the rockers help the 40+ acceleration?

Yeah 2nd gear roll ons are pretty crappy in our cars, unless you are doing 70, then it pulls fine. if I race from a low speed roll, like 30-40, I always make sure I have in 1st gear beforehand, this way I won't have to guess if it will shift down on its own.

Would it be better to just let the ECM do the shifts vs holding down the shifter into 1st gear? I know in my older monte's, YOu could have it locked in 1st gear and the computer would go into 2nd gear with the MPH/RPM at the right spot.

The Cobalt SS is just a V4 though isn't it? Now the supercharged one, that has more power than an SS. The OP mentioned his cousin has the supercharged. I like those little Cobolt, at least its an American car taking on the civic and other imports. The SS is a fast little car, but as a V4 is not going to beat an LS1, so let's not get carried away!

Do you even know what you are talking about?

a V4? try inline 4 and yes with the right mods even a four banger can hand it to an none modded ls1. Rember i said none modded.
