Default Changing head unit

Has anyone here changed their head unit? I want to put a in-dash DVD/CD player and possible navigation system, but I have heard that there can be problems when removing the stock head unit on these newer cars. Is this true does anyone know?

I haven't taken mine out, but I hear they come out pretty easily, if that's what you're asking.

I had the top of the line Pioneer nav unit in my car. Only thing I used it for was to display a pic of a pornstar when I was hitting the town up with friends. Besides that I didn't like it to much. I don't drive out of my city enough to use the NAV to it's potential.

If you remove the factory head unit, you will need a controller box for the chimes etc (the factory unit controls those). You can get one from crutchfield for like $150. Other than that, the units come out super easy.

being in Cali. you should just call Xzibit @ pimp my ride! But seriously, if you want to keep onstar go to a shop and have them install a custom mounting kit below your radio in that storage pocket, if not buy the chime adaptor and have fun!

Oh ok, that I guess was the info I needed. Cancelled my OnStar and I don't really care to ever renew it so thats no problem. Now I gotta decide what kind of HU I want. Probably won't go with Navi but there is a nice Pioneer DVD/Navi unit for a decent price that I'm looking at.

You still need it if you want your door chimes though.
