Default Spark Plug Recommendations

What do you guys recommend for spark plugs for performance? What gap and any tips for getting them in and out. Looks like the front side will be easy, how hard is it to pull the ones in back?

don't really need anything different than the stock plugs, they are very good as is, and anything else won't really gain you anything...

I use self-gapping Bosch Platinums in my '00 LS1 and my '87 Z28, never had any problem. You can generally get those for about $8-9/plug in the DC area.

Unless you have a turbo, nitrous, supercharger or some high horsepower motor spark plugs are not going to make any noticeable difference.

For modded engines I have always had good luck with NGK.

Spark plugs will help if he is getting any knock. I went with Autolite Iridiums (IX5243). These are one or two heat ranges colder so they will lower the temps. in the combustion chamber a little. Still plenty enough spark to burn the fuel. This will lower any knock retard that you may be getting so the PCM won't take away so much timing. I have no problems at all and they have been in over 10,000mi.

I'm getting a little bit of knock retard showing up, so I wanted to try a better plug.

I used those bosch platinums 4's on my 04Ls1 GTO and there was a noticable torqe&HP loss it just didn't have that sudden kick that it used to have when it had the stock ones on, it even ran slower in the 1/4mi. Personally I wouldn't recommend the Bosches to any Lsx's............ps took them off after one weeks use and put the stock ones back on.

I've only heard bad things about Bosch plugs in other applications as well.

I am telling you NGK for performance, never steered me wrong. I know I might catch some **** for using a foreign plug. . but what are you going to do!

I put in some NGK TR55IX Iridium plugs, seem to be fine. THose back side plug wires were a little bit of a bear, but once you pulled just right, they came out. I gapped them at about .048.
