Default Painted my engine cover

I finally got a chance to pick it up from the dealer. I started prep yesterday at about 1pm and finished around 7 pm. I primered, sanded and sprayed enough aerosol cans to make a few brain cells go bye-bye. I might sand the clear to make it ultra smooth. But here it is so far:

You should paint the fake intake runners black for a little contrast. Just my $.02.

Here's part two of the engine cover. I sanded it down with 600 grit sandpaper and got the paint as even as possible. I added about 5 coats of white spraypaint and about 10 coats of clear.

Steps to painting the engine cover:

1 -11.oz spray can of sandable primer
1 -small spray can of silver spray paint
2- 11 oz spray cans of paint ( your color choice)
2- 11 oz spray cans of clear coat (Krylon crystal clear)
1- sheet of 320 grit sandpaper
1- sheet of 600 grit sandpaper
1- sheet of 1000 grit sandpaper
---Masking tape or VASELINE (to block off letters from overspray)
X-acto knife (fine point)
Rubbing alcohol (to clean engine cover)

1) Mask of letters with masking tape.

2) Use X-acto knife to precisely trim out each letter
OR
2) use vaseline and lightly rub a coat over each letter (paint will not stick to vaseline)

3) Sand entire engine cover with 320 grit sandpaper, so most of the texture is removed.

4) Wipe down engine cover with alcohol

5) Spray sandable primer onto engine cover. About 4 coats.

6) Sand with 600 grit sandpaper.

7) Spray silver as your base coat. It helps to make the bright colors more vibrant.

8) Spray 5 coats of your color choice.

9) sand lightly with 600 grit sandpaper

10) spray 5 more coats of your color choice.

11) sand with 600 grit sandpaper.

12) spray 5 coats of clear.

13) sand with 600 grit sandpaper

14) Spray 5 more coats of clear

15) Sand with 600 grit sandpaper

16) Spray 5 coats of clear. ( Hold the can back about 12 inches so this layer sprays very evenly).

17) Sand very well with 1000 grit sandpaper.

18) Spray 2-3 coats of clear

19) Let engine cover dry overnight.

20) remove masking tpe from letters.

DONE!!

It should come out like this now:

I know it's a lot to read through...but somewhere towards the end, there will be a couple links to Donrome's website where you can purchase the modified front bar (there's a cutout for the alt), rear bar, and front & rear brackets. Pretty sure it's $140 for the set.

And since we're showing off...

Doesn't quite jump out at you like the others here...but it's the black-n-silver that will be the basis for all mods to come. It's quite dingy now...so i think it will get re-painted this spring.

He painted them. I wanna redo my bars and STB a different color. The blue I used on mine is a little too much for me haha.

I have to disagree, there are notches for them in the cover from the factory...but I don't even leave that thing on.

Dito on the hoses, I've seen four other LS4's, all have the lines under the cover. Given there are notches for said hoses on the cover. I personally think GM could have just moved them to the firewall or something and it would have looked better and functioned the same.

The hoses come from GM under the cover. That's how it came off and that's how it went back on. Thanks for the concern though Sint3k.
