Default Anyone here debadged?

I wanted to know if anyone here removed their bowties. Was there any adhesive residue after you removed the bowtie?

What did you remove it with? Fishing line?

Yes there was residue after removing the bowties. I used fishing line to remove them but my advice is to heat up the area first with a hair dryer or heatgun (be careful if you use a heat gun) and then they come off much easier with the fishing line. I also used goo gone to remove the residue.

I took off the bowtie on the trunk lid. I used a heatgun and i just pulled it off with my fingers, no residue at all.

From being a previous body man. . . .goo gone eats paint. . .DO NOT USE IT. With the hairdryer and your fingers you should be able to get 99% of it off. For the remaining a little glass cleaner should work fine. Then the fingernail scratches in the clear coat from getting the emblem off (shows up on dark colors) you can use a fine sanding compound to get those out.

I use fishing line and a little heat. Wax or goo gone to remove....

I always debadge, but I must admit I left the GXP badges on the doors, they were too pretty to remove.

There was no way I was going to have any Bowties on my car. But I left my GXP badges on and the V8 on the trunk lid. If you don't have Goo Gone the WD-40 also works very well at removing sticky residue.

I shaved the monte carlo off and kept just the SS and the bowtie. However, I am looking for a blackout center bowtie instead of the gold centered one.

I've removed the front bowtie to replace it with the SS, removed the rear bowtie, and replaced the rear SS with a larger door SS. Each time i used the ambient heat with my fingers to remove the emblem, and then goo gone'd the adhesive. Worked like a charm.

The one i posted about from grafxwerks with the little "SS" in it? Yeah, i do...i didn't like it enough to install it in place of the SS on the front. It's sitting here, waiting for a good home.

I want to remove the front bowtie on my car and replace it with the SS. Where'd you buy it from?

Edit: Also, when removing the front Chevy bowtie, how is it removed? Couple of screws? Adhesive? How did you go about attaching the SS lable to the grill?

You guys are lucky to not have holes left behind. Us GTO guys are pretty much stuck with the arrowhead unless we actually have it shaved.

The SS you get will already have an adhesive backing. So just clean up the area you took the bowtie off of and replace it with the SS. As far as removing the bowtie, you can heat it up a bit with a hairdryer and take some fishing line and go behind the bowtie with that to get it off. There are a few threads about this floating around if you need any other info. When you pull the bowtie off there will be a mounting tab on the area where the bowtie was attached too(theres actually a plastic area in the shape of the bowtie thats a part of the grill, that's where the SS will go) and you'll have to remove that tab. Be careful when removing any excess adhesive from the area where the bowtie was as the plastic is pretty soft and easily scratched.
