Yes. A Resonator is just like having a 3rd muffler on your car. Remove it with a straight pipe and it will sound alittle better.

If you want some wicked sound, either put bullets in place of your stock mufflers and place a glasspack where your res is (Old-School muscle sound) or run a bullet for the res and no rear muffs....it'll roar!

If I had to do everything all over again, I would get the sizes and just do a custom 3" exhaust with Hogan. I would give him all the sizes starting with the cat/back flange and work my way back.

But the cheapest thing would be ordering the Magnaflow system and also ordering the res removal pipe from Hogan.

IF i did it all over again i would keep the stock mufflers and just put a cutout on it. Instead of a cutout and flowmasters

Had my resonator removed took it for a test drive. Barely louder at all. Went back had them install two bullet mufflers. I think it sounds good. Too raspy without res or muffs. I'll try to get an audio clip posted. cost me $110 total. not stainless, but nothing else under there is either. Had them reinstall the factory tips. looks stock. sounds mean.

What would be louder? Resonator removal or 3inch down pipe with catalyst?

I may be wrong, but I always thought that the sole purpose of the resonator was to reduce interior noise, not to really change the exterior volume.

OEM Exhaust pipes from GM are made of Stainless Steel on the SS. The Mufflers are are not. Thats why they will rust out faster then the pipes will.

As for what would be loud, go with a larger downpipe with no cat and straight exhaust with no mufflers would be the loudest.

Now if you want to be somewhat legal, go with a larger downpipe with a high flow cat, then straight exhaust, no res into a GOOD set of mufflers.

Catalyst stays... NY will not pass me without it. AllI know is that the GM cat Is rather large....From my experiance it absorbs sound.. the Muffler I have now, oddly enough make engine sound like stock only louder, it's a free flow design.... But I want to the car to be as loud as my Pontiac...which has the same mufflers and an aftermarket catalyst. It is loud enough to know when I'm coming and going, with being civil at cruise and not rattling my fillings out. Now that you said the stock mufflers arent stainless I feel even better about removing them....I'm pretty confident the Aero Chambers will absorb all the raspyness as it has done on my GP....my stainless pipe should be here today....
