Default Info needed on GXP Tire press system

I didn't get an owners manual with the car so i guess i have a few questions;

1. How much pressure do you have to lose before you get a warning light?

2. When i reset the pressure through the computer, what exactly is happening?

3. Is there any way to check to see if my system is working properly other than deflating a tire and looking for an indication?


I appreciate the help, i hate asking "newb" of questions...

1) 10 pounds difference causes a warning

2) Reset just tells the computer that pressure is OK, the system resets so that next time it sees a 10 pound difference it provides a warning (I think - owners manual does not get into any detail).

There is a separate sensor/transmitter in each wheel. The TPM system shares the receiver with the keyless entry system. Data from the receiver is displayed on the instrument panel, using the driver information center (DIC).

Each sensor is coded differently. This permits the receiver to determine exactly which tire is over or under-inflated. The valve stem cap is made of aluminum and the valve core is nickel-plated to resist corrosion. The end of the stem serves as the sensor’s antenna.

The sensors operate only above 20 mph (32 kph) and transmit once per hour when parked, to preserve battery power.

If the pressure in a tire rises or falls outside the calibration limits, the condition is displayed by the DIC. The low limit is 24 psi (168 kPa) and the upper limit is 39 psi (272 kPa). A warning is sounded automatically if the pressure falls below 24 psi or rises above 39 psi.

Any time the tires are rotated or a new sensor has been installed, the TPM receiver must be reprogrammed to recognize the new sensor locations. Failure to do so will result in the pressure readings being incorrectly displayed on the DIC.

mine will pop a warning at 27 psig on the low side and turn off once it sees 28

Mine doesn't do anything until pressure drops to 20 psi. The '05 only provides a low pressure warning, doesn't specify which wheel like some of the newer models.

Well, when I first got the 20" tires, the guy at Discount Tire told me to keep them at 40 psi. Well, I did, and after a little driving, they would heat up to "trip" the sensors. Since working for Firestone, I've realized that DT guy was smoking crack.
