Default GTO vs GXP

Alright I need your honest, unbiased opinion lol.

Locally there is a 2004 Cosmos purple six speed GTO for sale, 14,900 miles on it. If they can somehow give me a good trade in value for my GXP I MAY consider it...I'm not considering it yet, not until I find out if my insurance rate would drop or increase.

Does anybody know what insurance "rating number" GTO's have? I'm guessing it will be higher than our GXP's being that it is a rwd coupe.

In any event, IF I can get the GTO for a good deal, IF they gave me a GOOD *** deal on trade in, and IF my insurance rate was somehow magically lower, what would you guys do? 1 of 377 purple/purple 04 gto's, or keep my GXP?

btw I like the purple combo as it's pretty rare. I've already seen two white GXP's around here!

I'm not a big fan of purple, but if you like it, GO FOR IT.

I have the GXP instead of a GTO only because they wouldn't allow GTO's into Canada until about a month ago.

I was gonna say keep the GXP cause I saw you have an SS in your sig and figured that should give you your RWD fix, but then I saw you sold it. So I say go for the GTO.

GTO>GXP.... In moderate weather areas. If you get snow and don't have another car they are almost equal but the GTO still has the edge... Stick shift is the only way to go!

If you do not need the extra trunk space and 2 more doors go for the Goat.
Goats back seats do not fold and the trunk aint too big.
Other than that it is a nice fast car. I like the gto interior a lot. I wanted one but I needed a bit more space.

If I were you I would keep an eye out for an 05 with the LS2. 50 more HP. And I'm pretty sure your insurance will go up with the GTO.

Yeaa I think the ls2 is the way to go with the gto's. They need that extra power to move its weight

They also have a M6 Spice Red 06 GTO at the same dealer, but I'm looking for something cheaper. A couple years ago I'd be worried about having the LS2 as it's a tad faster, but now I just want a RWD manual car to drive again. As long as I can throw a cam in it later on and have it loping that'll be fine for me, it's a piggy of car anyways so I'm not worried about modding it. Just a nice DD cruiser

Thanks for the input.

the only plus the ls1 has over the ls2 is that there is a more variety of mods. but unless you are gonna spend a ton, there are plenty of mods you can do with the ls2. i wish we had half as many options for our ls4

Just by you naming the color codes sounds like you really want a GTO.

I'm there w/ Big - I shopped the GTO but bought the MCSS because of the functionality. I'm not a fan of the GTO design, I think the GXP looks better.

Good: GTO

Better: GXP

Best: G8 GT

But hey - drive what you like best! And on the insurance - my '02 Z28SS still costs more per 6 months than my '06 MCSS.

GTO hands down. Has lengths over the FWD V8 setup which will NOT keep you entertained. I regret purchasing my MC SS over the GTO I was cross-shopping. I'm in the same position as the OP. I'm backwards in my MC SS and I dislike driving it. It's not fun. It may look nice, but it's too much of.. an..well, too 'grown up', for me? I'm almost 20, and I want RWD and manual, and fun. Not FWD Automatic. Straight honest I bought my MC SS for the cylinder deactivation to keep a V8, and it's not even worth it. My 07 Mustang GT M5 got better gas mileage when I was railing it. This thing gets 16mpg no matter what I do. Not impressed.

Yeah, I'm pretty torn. I love the bilsteins, bigger brakes, suede, sunroof, heads up, pretty decent monsoon system, dual climate control, heated seats, etc on the GXP. It's pretty refined yet has plenty of power to give me my torque fix. But I do miss the RWD manual V8 experience. I went down today and test drove the goat and loved it, just needs a short shifter. I wasn't able to work out the price details as the internet sales manager had left by the time I got there, but I will go back tomorrow to work that out depending on what my insurance agent quotes me for insuring the goat. Either way I won't be picking up the goat tomorrow, I'll have to take a day or two to brew over the idea.

Thanks again guys.

Cool

My son has a '05 Goat. I definitely love the power it has, but I'm 6' and 250 lbs. and I'm very cramped in it.

I can tell you that you'll be beefing up the front suspension because it is very tight in turns at around a 130 MPH. The automatics need a higher stall speed converter in order to launch the car properly. Traction is an issue, too. All things can be fixed because my son and I is working on these things.

I definitely would have bought the GTO if I was in my twenties or thirties, but over the years I have raced an awful lot of vehicles. I know how my man feels when he says that the GXP for him is too grown up. I bought a '79 Monte Carlo, brand new, when I was 18 and I got rid of it in six months because it was too grown up for me and I wanted speed and this thing had too much luxury.

I say buy what turns you on, but in the mean time, me and my grandchildren will be enjoying our recently acquired GXP. It's tough tryin' to get them in the back of that damn GTO. I remember when it used to have room in the back seat and a trunk. Now, where did they put that thing at? Hmmmm??! By the way did I mention that I have a '05 Chrysler Crossfire. That's me being very selfish when I drive that thing.

I sat in an 06 yellow GTO, they are much much more narrow than the Monte Carlo's, but i still fit in it pretty well, and I am 6'7'' 300+. Just depends on if the car will be your daily driver or not.

If it would be then i hope you are under 6'0'' tall lol

When will they make big fast cars again??

I wanna go fast
