Been there tried that

The shaft bolts on but the steering wheel is way off and the angle of the joints are different so it creates a bind on the shaft. I ended up getting the rag joint eliminator shown above.

Wanna buy an LS1 steering shaft cheap J/K LOL!!

the advantage of having the eliminator is,the old leather style joint is very old now, even new it flexes too much so you will always have flex in the steering especially noticed in turns where there are bumps in the road the you feel the steerind wheel being jerked whereas the eliminator makes the steering more solid. well worth the money!

Actually, if you know how to adjust Tie Rods, you can center the Steering Wheel without a problem..

And yes an Alignment Shop can fix that, if they cant I would tell them they are fired myself.

I do alignments all the time and it won't work. The joints bind up because of the angle.

The u-joints in the steering shaft are on a tighter angle and bind up

ok, i went ahead and modified the Ls1 shaft today since the slop in my ragjoint was really too much!!!!!!!!
i used a peanut grinder to remove the ears where the shaft goes through the column end. knocked the knuckle off the shaft re-clocked the knuckle onto the shaft splines
then put 2 small tack-welds where the ears were!
let me tell you the difference in steering is night and day and of course i had to test it HAARRRDD even though my front sway-bar is off i still had more control than ever before..so if you have an Ls1 shaft it will be worth the 15min of time
