I know a guy that hooked up a 6AL onto his LT1.

it was SUPER easy he said. thats the box I am gonna use too.

I believe the 6al will be perfect for whatever your tryin to do. I am gonna set mine up to automatically pull timing when I have the nitrous armed.

I am running the MSD Digital 6 also. And yes the adaptor harnesses will make the installation much easier and I highly suggest using them.

There are many options for ignition boxes out there.

The 6A/6AL do not have timing retard built in but that option can be added with another module. Most boxes will either include timing retard or have a module you can add to retard timing.

We carry most ignition box options with the Mallory 685 and the Digital 6 being the best sellers

Im running 6AL, with the harness, works good. Im not running nitrous or force induction though.

If you get the 6AL, I do recommend the harness so that you wont have to splice the factory harness.

I had an accel 300+ box, I swear it aided in burning up the opti @ 34,000mi. I would go with msd digital 6 or mallory 685.

I loved my 685... wish I never got rid of it when ditched my nitrous. That 2-step was awesome for 6-speed launches.

what is a window switch? also, does the 685 need its own specific harness? or could i use an MSD one. I can't seem to find a mallory harness on Jegs.

A window switch is used for nitrous to set a specific RPM window for the nitrous to activte and deactivate. As for the harness yes you can use the MSD harness. I actually use the 685 box and MSD harness.

I used to run the original MSD6A for the longest time, but upgraded to their MSD digital 6 box after adding NX150 kit to the car last year.

A VERY prominent tuner told me an Accel 300+ was worth 3 rwhp on the chassis dyno. Now before you jump me...when he dynos a part to see if it helps the car he makes 3 pulls, puts the part on makes three pulls, takes the part off and makes three pulls. He said an MSD made no power over stock Ignition.

Now to put some more poop in the pot I have an Accel 300 on my car. I adjusted the valves warm, but the valvecovers back on and it would not start. Bypassed the box and it fired up. This was the same day I ran my best ever pass, the 10.84. It ran the 10.84 on stock ignition, with 12.5 to 1 compression.

With that said, makes me wonder if these cars even need an aftermarket ignition.

I wouldnt use a box unless you have a power adder that needs retard or somethng along those lines. People get carried away with ignition boxes and there really isn't a point to slap one on top of the stock sytesm unless, again you need some of its features

agreed...have seen way to many issuess with nitrous car running stock ignition components that were fixed by an aftermarket box and coil.
