Default Oil leak

So yesterday i went on a 300 mile trip and before i noticed i was a tad low on oil, it never leaked though. so i put 1 quart in to get it up to the highest mark. today when i get back, i notice it's leaking after i have it parked for 10 minutes. what's up with that? Did i put too much oil in? how bad would that be?

it looks like its leaking at where the tranny and the engine connect. not entirely sure though.

thanks

I would Say your rear main seal is shot or you might have a oil leak out of the back of the intake manifold, which i had the same problem you did. i had the shop look at it and they said the rear main seal was shot and the rear intake manifold was leaking oil also so they fixed both and no more leaks!

okay so i've confirmed that it's leaking from where the engine and tranny are joined. How bad is this? will it go away once all the excess oil leaks out?

I said to myself "... back of the intake manifold" before reading your full post.

+1 on what 94camaroz28ss above me said...

Rear main. Use one quart of Lucas Oil stablizer at your local O'reillys or where ever and see if it slows it down.

if it stops leaking that means you are low on oil, there isnt any extra oil that flows out of the rear main or the intake, you either need to look at it yourself or go get it fixed before it becomes a bigger problem.

On most occasions it leaks out of the back of the intake, runs down the tranny and looks like the rear main seal.

my car is in the shop right now getting some performance mods and the oil pan gasket! if you do it yourself be ready for a job, and if you go my route and pay a shop be prepared to spend between $275 and $325. myself i did not want to spend a full day of my short weekend dropping the k member and a whole bunch of other fun stuff.

Yeah i had the Shop replace my Rear Main Seal it cost $400 dollars and then it was still leaking after a couple of days, so i took it back and they said it was leaking out the back of the motor where the Intake Manifold and Block come together, so i asked them how much to fix it they said $400 i then asked how much for the parts they said $30 dollars i was like hell no so i went home and did it myself and it took a few hours but i got her done and she doesnt leak any oil now!

If you have the time and think you can do it yourself i say do it, but like i said i let the shop do the rear main and i did the Intake gasket!

Yeah you are probably low on oil now, get it replaced soon!

Oil pan gasket isn't too bad, no need to drop the K member just unbolt the motor mounts and lift the motor as high as it will go. Then put pieces of 2X4s to hold the engine up. Pan will then slide out pretty good. The rear main on the other hand, tranny has to come out for that and that is for the proffessionals. If I had a lift though I'd probably do it myself.
