Default LT1 out of time?

Took my car to the shop to get the opti replaced. Went to get it and now its runnin like ****. Valves chattering very, very bad, starter kicking back, and popping back through the exhaust as well as the air intake when you try to crank it. The mechanic i took it to or should i say the dipshit said the MSD box went out as well and he had to hook the ignition back up like factory. So whats my problem guys? did he put my opti on wrong or what? Any help on fixing my car would be greatly appreciated

i have seen this a few times, the optispark is not lined up on the correct splines causing the misfire, they need to redo their work and pay closer attention! give them the opportunity to get it right....

He probably put the cam pin into the wrong slot on the Opti drive. Good luck,

if the opti was changed the wires were definately moved, car should not have been taken from the shop nor should it have been released in that condition!

Why would it make his valves really chattery though?

Valves dont "chatter" what your hearing is detonation.

When the opti is changed the wires are removed from it.

Your two most probable solutions have already been posted (plug wires and timing). Like was stated, to replace the opti, you have to remove the plug wires from it, so thats where the mix up would take place.

What year is the LT1? If it's 93-4 then it's easy to have the splined shaft installed incorrectly. If it's the 95-97 vented setup, I doubt the timing is off. I remember even trying to put the dowel pin into the other holes just playing around and it wouldn't go.

I agree, the spline is just off or a plug is crossed. The wires are hard to mix up though, they are all really length specific, if it wer my car i would fix it myself, specially if the opti has to come off. I'v seen too many things go wrong with shops fixing cars wrong. Like my buddy's tranny cooler lines not getting put back on with clamps=5 mile tranny life lol. Oh And your msd box is probubly fine.
