Default Oil is disappearing

I checked my oil level and it was pretty low. I bought a quart and added the whole thing, but it still looks like I need another 1-2. Where is the oil going?!

Where do I check for leaks? The only place I know to check is the oil pan.

rear main seal or possibly from the valve cover, i found out my valve cover gasket was shot and oil was leaking out from the cover and then burning on the header. Do you notice a burning oil smell?

My bet is on the rear main seal or the intake. If you smell it, that means it is leaking onto the exhaust.

Rear main seal, oil level sensor, back of the intake manifold, timing cover, and even the valve covers are suspect.

at 174K my rear main seal is leak free.

My Bet:

Intake
Valve Covers
Oil Pan
Oil Filter Adapter

I switched over to Royal Purple after I bought the car around 75k miles. Maybe it's too late to have started putting in synthetic? :[

That only depends on how many false seals the conventional oil in there before created. Synthetics DO NOT cause leaks. They just reveal leaks that conventional oil covered up..

the best way to tell is if you're parked in the same place every day - preferably in a garage, so that you can give the pavement a thorough cleaning, fill the oil to the cross hatches, and take it out for a drive... I'd go at least 10-15 miles, varying speeds, etc. Take it home, and park it (over a large piece of cardboard if nothing else). Wait until morning, and when you pull away... there's your answer. If nothing, then that means it is more of an oil burning issue, either (bad piston rings, check compression), or it really is dissappearing, lol.

lol, yes the dipstick is all the way in. I notice spots on the driveway now and then, but it isn't much. I'll clean up the driveway and see what happens over nite.
