Default Electric Water Pump

Thinking of replacing the stock mechanical water pump to an electric pump. Any advantages and/or disadvantages? Performance wise? BTW, no problems on the stock waterpump, just a thought of maybe changing over. Something to do over winter. Any advise appreciated. Thanks.

Something about putting the well being of my motor in the hands of a power wire and a couple of relays just doesn't sit right. You guys can have those 10 ponys I am sticking with mechanical! I got enough electrical **** to worry about

Mechanicals give out more than EWPs and can be changed in to minutes if it ever does. They also make a dummy light for those that dont watch there gauges alot. Plus i dont think his car is a DD.

I run the Meziere on my set up and got 9-10 rwhp across the board on a Mustang Dyno. Unfortunately, I added LT headers before I got a chance to test just the EWP at the track. Because its an electric motor and turns at a constant speed you may run a bit hotter at cruise, I did, but its not bad..It does run cooler at idle and in traffic for the same reasons...I like mine and have 2 years on it...

I have a CSI with a dummy light. Cruise temps for me remained about the same and definitely provides some good gains as well as some additional benefits. I hooked mine to a toggle so that I can run the pump with the car off in the staging lanes at the track. Combined with running the cooling fans, you can cool the car down in about 10 minutes.

So if you go with an EWP, would it be best to have the switch to manually turn the fans on? I understand the mechanical water pump is going to flow better at cruising speeds whereas the EWP is going to flow better at idle. For someone that's driving to/from work or cruising on the highway, seems like adding a fan would be all that's necessary?

Well then I guess you can take pics of our rears as we go by you with our extra HP Joke

Like AC said, the stock units tend to go out more over a electric. Know of plenty of LTx owners with several thousands of miles on the EWP and no issues...including mine

Cheap horsepower I guess.. It all adds up.. and yes 10rwhp is a general advantage.. not sure on disadvantages as I don't have one yet

I use a manual fan switch in conjunction with the PCM activation.

No one has mentioned that if/when an electric unit goes out, it doesn't give the opti a bath.

Also if you do convert to an electric pump, you can take out the water pump drive gear and plug the hole on the timing cover.

Oh boy, I'm in b4 96capriceknowswhyyoushouldn'thaveone.

Seriously tho, buy a relayed warning system that warns for both ground and power, when the pump is getting older have a new one in the trunk and the minute you see it go out spend 15 mins. and you'll be back on the road.
