Put the cats back on and if they don't pop the hood to test you might pass. I would be sure it had a good tune as well. If all that don't work you may have to throw back on emission style headers.

Run a set of high flow cat in the true duals. Then, if they open your hood, you will likely have to get a set of emissions headers and install them and your EGR and everything.

You MIGHT be able to pass without cats depending on tune... but be prepared to put some on. Also, it'll show on a carfax that it failed inspection... if that matters to you.

I have a friend with a built 4.3 and no cats in an '89 blazer, and he passed.... BUT I don't know if the restrictions were more lenient for an '89.

^^ I wouldn't chance it w/o running cats. There's no way in anyone would be passing here in Oregon w/o them..smog testing is something that needs to be shut down!

Sweet, I'm in Gilbert. I've got LPPs in the mail and I have emissions coming up in march. Can we still register for 2 years? Or are emissions every year now? I think my bike comes up every year, but I don't know about cars.

I'm thinking about doing the emissions, registering for 2 years and then putting on the headers. To play it safe, but if you pass with no problems, then I'm all set... hopefully.

If it's like it is in Tucson, you can only do a year at a time in Emissions areas. Also, if it's like Tucson, they don't give a **** about visuals and will just hook up the sniffer to your exhaust. I went in without a cat twice, they marked that I had one both times - even looked on the wrong side of the car both times.

Also to the OP, it's kind of hard for us to help you when we don't know where you are. Emissions vary alot from area to area. You'll get better help in your regional section of the forum.

Also to the everyone. My friend sold my neighbor a '89 GTA that would not come close to passing emissions. So he bought a bottle of that "Pass Emissions" stuff, and passed with flying colors (do a Google search if you don't know what I'm talking about).

Around here if its obd2 they just plug it in. No visual at all, If your tuned youll pass. If they do do a visual a guy named Hollo found some Fake cats they look like polished cats but its all fake its just a 3 inch pipe in the middle you add to your y-pipe, and they are pretty cheap!! Or just cut some stock cats in half and tack weld them on..LOL!

No, that's not for sure. I know I used to always have the option for 2 years, but I've not paid much attention in the last few. I DO know, however, that motorcycles must do emissions every year for some reason. I just hope it's not like that for cars too.

Well, that was easy. 2 minutes in and out. Scanned my pcm and checked the gas cap, they didn't even pop the hood this time.
