Torn elbow! what are the effects?
When I was taking off my air intake, i noticed the intake elbow was torn mostly at the bottom exactly where it connects over the throttle body. How can that effect the way my car acts?

Jason works for, or used to work for, Sam Taylor Buick/Cadillac in Fort Walton Beach Florida. They have very, very good prices on parts and won't screw you on shipping. I've bought a lot of stuff from him.
You can find his contact info at www.shbox.com.

Mines been torn since I bought the car about 3 years ago and it's always ran and drove great, probably because it's not a very big tear.. it's patched with duct tape
It hasn't caused me any problems so I'm not too concerned with it for now, someday I'll be getting either a 1LE or an aluminum one though.

you'll fail emissions due to the car putting too much fuel in to compensate for the extra air. (or something like that, i know i failed emissions due to it) the car will also sometimes not want to start after its sat for awhile.
i know this from experience. it happened to me in the summer of 07.
it cost me $100 at a shop to figure this out :duh: and then i spent $90 at summitt for a new metal elbow. had i known i was gonna end up getting an oem ram air hood and an oem airbox w/ k&n for $425 (separately, the hood was $307 and the airbox was $115) i'd have left it with the duct tape on it for the 6 months it was on the road before i put it away last winter. you could only see 1 inch of duct tape if that on the side because it was all underneath. i ended up reselling the whole stock airbox assembly with the black powdercoated elbow for around $65
the first pic is with the powdercoated elbow i got from summitt and the second is how the engine looks now (the intake was painted during an intake manifold gasket change) and the first pic is kind of crappy because it was taken on a cell phone
