PORT AND POLISH HEADS Do it no????
hey guys i have a mild build 383 eagle rotating assembly and a LT4 cam for right now. how much hp gain and mpg loss would i see if i ported and polished my heads and intake. and i would prolly port my TB Intake side. to 58 or 52 so when i do get the TB i dont have to worry about that. can i get some feedback on this whether its a good or bad.

If you have never ported a set of heads before. And you really want to try. buy a used set to practice on. There are alot of books out there that can help with this, David Visard's how to build and modify small block chevys on a budget ,is one. Realize that even with alot of research you are probably not going to get numbers comperable to any professional porter on your first or second try. Good numbers can be had, I did a set 10 years ago that wasn't too bad 254/185@.550 lift. but I would never have made close to the numbers my car puts down with the current Ai heads/cam

A good read: http://www.sa-motorsports.com/diyport.aspx
Like Kory said, DIY heads won't yeild the kind of power that a professional job will
(actually, it's pretty easy to ruin a set of heads if you don't know what you are doing
or have the tools you need)
Stock, imported heads on a 383 will probably be disapointing.
You really want to pick a cam and a set of heads that can make use of the displacement.
Talk to Lloyd @ http://www.elliottsportworks.com/lt1.html or Phil over at http://www.advancedinduction.com/AiProductsLT1.html
They'll hook you up with everything you need.
Either way (even if you do decide to go at it on your own), please keep us posted on the results.

ok i talked to a bunch of people. and ill prolly go with a set of LE heads. my only thing with my build on my car is. that mine is my daily driver and has to be capapble and reliable of a 6 hour drive once a month. and with gettting more then 5 MPG lol. my M6 i picked up to 28 MPG. so i gotta keep the economy in mind just a lil bit. but ill prolly break down and get some heads from LE ive heard a lot of good things

I had LE2 heads and a 22x/23x custom cam on a stock bottom end,
it was easily streetable and I made plenty of long trips across the country.
Even with the 4000 stall and 3.73s, I was pulling 20mpg on the highway.
Give Lloyd a call or drop him an email, he'll be happy to help you find the
combination that works best for you.
