Default LT1 Timing Chain

Would it possible to use the LT4 Timing chain on the stock LT1 cam and crank sprockets?

No.

Having said that, you want to replace the entire set. I'm going to assume you have an LT4 chain and LT1 sprockets and want to just change the chain. The sprocket and the chains wear together, so why would you put a new chain on old sprockets? Not a good idea. Definitely replace both together.

No, the LT4 got a roller chain (the LT4ED is also roller). Stock LT1 is a link chain.

What is the point of changing the chain without changing the sprockets, anyway? They wear together.

[edit] I was slow in looking up some data, so Joe beat me to the punch.

Doing a cam swap now, we have a Comp Double roller we can use. Is the stock crank sprocket keyed on in a way that when we go to reinstall we aren't doing to screw up the alignment? Looking at the install on Rob's site, doesn't look that way.

The stock crank sprocket can only go on one way. Some aftermarket ones have additional keyways for changing the timing. Make sure you use the right keyway, if you have one like that. You will also have to use an electric water pump with a Comp DR set. Plus, if you are putting it on a 1993, you will have to convert to a vented opti.

Thanks, I already have the vented opti conversion stuff, had the timing cover welded and picked up an ewp.
