Trip odometer is not working
I only noticed it the other night and haven't had a chance to look into it. Anyone ever had a trip odometer go bad? Mine is moving slowly as if its getting stuck or something. It rolls 1-5 miles for like every 15 I drive. Main odometer works good as far as I can tell. I'm sure someone has taken apart the cluster and seen the internals... Any clue why its all of a sudden crapping out?

If it is like mine, the gear is cracked and wont' turn the shaft any more. Mine used to run up to 9/10, then couldn't grip enough to click over to the next mile. Eventually it just stopped. I fixed it once with some glue, but that eventually failed (I guess from the heat the dash takes in the summer sun). I wish I knew of a place to get a replacement gear.

wow... never had any idea that this was that common. At least its comforting to see that I'm not the only one. I'm still happy that its only the trip meter.
You see, I only drive my car a day or two each week so, I didn't notice how much driving I was actually doing. I was getting my gas milage using the trip meter and it kept getting worse.... went from 16-18mpg to 14, to 10, and finally to 8mpg when I finally realized it was the trip meter. I had been checking out all kinds of things like my tire pressure, brakes, valve lash, air filter, checked exhaust for leaks, and even used autotap for a couple of drives looking for any sensor issues and found nothing (and the car drives great - hehe)... I was starting to wonder if I had a fuel line leaking somewhere that was wasn't obvious.
Anyway, does that trip meter come out by itself or is it not removable? I'm sure if its removable I can find another one in a local junk yard.

The cracked gear on mine is on the odometer shaft. That particular gear drives the trip meter. Just grab the whole assy, but check the gear, first.
A secondary concern about getting into the dash is shattering of the top dash cover when you take it off. It is an expensive piece, now.

mine is pretty much destroyed already. hehe... Surprised somebody hasn't made some sort of replacement for those out of something better like metal, fiberglass, rubber, or something...
So, that gear your referring to is independently removable/replacable? Or will I have to swap the regular odometer along with the trip meter?
