A good set of heads under 1300 & whats the best Thinner Head Gasket
I have been looking around for heads and seen a few options but I would rather poll the collective knowledge we have here.
I was going to go with 195cc Heads as I don't think my 355 would need more.
I have valve springs an roller rockers on my current heads so I will probably keep them.
I also want to run thinner head gaskets so I would like to know what everyone has had the best luck with in terms of thinner head gaskets.
So far I have found Patriot Heads to be the least loaded but I am not sure I trust them.
Specs:
Patriot Performance 2046 LT1 Aluminum Heads
Technical Specs:
Combustion Chamber: 58cc
Intake Runner: 195cc
Exhaust Runner: 70cc
Intake Valve: 2.02"
Exhaust Valve: 1.60"
Max. Valve Spring Lift: 0.550"
Spring Pressure Closed: 130 lbs. @ 1.800"
Spring Pressure Open: 45 lbs. @ 1.250"
Retainer Material: steel
Valve Seal Material: Viton
Valve Guide Material: Manganese Bronze
Valve Job: 5-angle
I have been looking at Trickflow heads as well and they have nicer specs but are not loaded so I need to buy valves and seals etc.
Specs:
TFS-3042B010 pair, bare
Combustion Chamber volume: 62cc
Intake Port volume: 195cc
Exhaust Port volume: 72cc (Strangle enough it says 75cc later in the listing for these so I am not sure here...)
Valve sizes: For use with 2.02" Intake, 1.625" Exhaust
Valve springs: Not Included
I also found these Edelbrock Heads but I am also not sure about them...
Specs:
NEW Edelbrock RPM Xtreme CNC LT1 Cylinder Heads PN# 61939
AFR's are just out of my budget or I would not even ask lol.
Thanks guys!!!

i would get victor reinz gaskets there cheaper and when you buy the mr gasket one you pay more and when you open the package the gasket reads victor reniz. so cut out the middle man.

The stock heads not good for porting??? The 561 casting heads are not good for porting but the 643's and 374's are great for porting. There's guys running 10's with stock ported heads. You just have to make sure you go to someone who knows what they're doing and are proven. Lloyd and AI are both proven porters. There are others out there but these seem to be the ones who always come up first. Lloyd has done 4 sets of heads for our family and some of our friends too.

My bases for that comment came from when I was looking at LT4 Heads and the differences between them and LT1 heads.
The stock casting I was shown just had so little material I took his word for not wanting to touch them.

Who's word is "his" word for not wanting to touch them? They obviously don't have a clue. A good set of stock heads ported by someone who really knows what they're doing will outperform out of the box aftermarket heads. As far as the LT4 heads you really can't compare man you can get them to flow more than a set of aftermarket heads.

It was researching on here and a website as well as Chuck Hawk telling me it was not worth trying to do to my heads. He told me to get LT4 heads or aftermarket so there was a better bases for porting.
The links online showing the lesser amount of material were found when looking up the difference between the LT1 and LT4.

I would not run either out of the box.
The patriots leave something to be desired and will be easily passed by ported stockers, and the TFS heads are awesome but have huge chambers which will murder your CR if you want to run NA. Ideally of the two the TFS heads milled and ported would be by far the best choice, but will put you way over budget.
Unless your 355 has an extremely radical solid roller some ported stockers would be more then enough without breaking the bank.

All the ported stocks I looked at were not 195cc so really they would be the better option? I have a spare set of heads and I don't min doing it but I was thinking i I put some port work into the Patriots they would be perfect.
Thanks guys I really appreciate all the thoughts it a HUGE help.

Ai 190cc heads would probably be the best set of heads you could get in that price range. What cam are you running and what are your goals for the build? The heads you listed have larger chambers than stock so they will likely hurt your compression, and you may have to upgrade the springs on the patriots depending on the cam you are running.

Damn I already like them, yet I want to do the bronze guides and I need to check my spare heads and see where I am at.... hmmmmmmmmmm
Time to look at the budget setup and see what I want to do.
