I was on a drive this Sunday and took a turn and sideways and it just died in the middle of it... Wouldnt start first couple of tries, coasted to stop then it started and I continued my hour drive!
Next morning I started car to let warm up and it died about 2-4 mins later, no start since then, came home for lunch, it started then died 3 sec later, came home after work and NO start.. I unplugged the Opti harness and made sure all the prongs were not corroded and were not flat(bad connection), plugged it back in and it fired right up.. been good since last night...

well it's def a spark problem. Pulled a plug, put the wire back on, grounded it on the head, cranked it over and got nothing...

How can i check just the coil and just the opti?

I've had this happen before, once it was the opti but twice it was the Ignition Control Module which I think was used from 93-95 and is right in front of the driver side valve cover, I believe. Here's a link with a picture of what I'm talking about (unplug/2 screws). It's about 1" x 2" wide. There's a good chance that is where the problem is, hope it helps!

As a side note you can always check for fuel pressure at the shrader valve above the driver valve cover near the intake.

fuel should be fine, i just put a new pump in and have replaced everything in the fuel system lol.

Gonna throw a new coil in and found a tear in the boot on the plug wire that goes from the opti to the coil which could have jumped a ground somewhere and fried the coil so i replaced that and gonna throw a new coil on there this week. This could explain my cutting out at higher rpm too....

one way to just see if there is anything coming out of the coil is to remove the coil wire from the opti and do the same thing you did with the spark plug. Put it next to a ground and see if any spark comes out if it does then this could mean that your cap and rotor is back, since there isnt anything else between there and the spark plugs besides the spark plug wires.

just put the other end of the plug wire next to a ground? i wasnt sure what to do with that since you can't put a spark plug or anything on that end of the wire...

sounds like icm for sure. The opti usually goes when the car is warm if it burns up. The icm is really easy to replace and is usually the problem in a no start condition. I could be wrong. Did your guy's optis just die like that? You would think it would cough and sputter at least.

Any luck with that coil Joe? Or did you have any time to mess with it after you got home earlier?

Just got in from puttin the new coil in and running my new MSD wires, ran them away from everything so none of them should be anywhere near burning. Found number 5's wire was burnt to almost a crisp lol so that had to be causing a miss also. But got all those in and just need to pick up some zip ties tomorrow to tie them all away. Didn't have a chance to fire it yet as its 1 am and i'm preety sure i'd wake everyone up on my street lol. Gonna check everything out tomorrow. Keep yours fingers crossed! haha

Thanks again for the coil Travis! Hopefully we can line em' up friday lol

I'll get slaughtered. But, it'd be fun to see exactly how much faster a cam-only LT1 is than a bolt-on LT1 in the 1/4. I wish I had my video camera already. Had to get a raincheck from the store, because they were out of them when I went to go get one.. Otherwise, I'd try and get some footage on Friday. I may have someone video with my new cell phone. But, it won't be anything too great really.

Yeah, I hope it works out for ya. I've been wanting to see what it'll do since you started the build. I can't believe how much hard luck you've had with it since you've gotten it back together though. Hopefully, this'll be the end of your problems for a while. Then, you'll just have to worry about the rear-end holding up on slicks. lol
