Default ram air or ls1 lid conversion?

ok so im getting ready fo my next mod.

i have a cai, but i heard the ls1 lid mod gives mor hp and it def looks better, but what would be better a ram air system or the ls1 conversion?

its for a 97 lt1 and i have the ls1 ws6 style hood. so i have some room to play with.

The point you are at is cool since either of the two will work for you.

I'm either going with an ls1 air intake or a custom one on my LE2 355 Setup.

There is no difference in performance. Pick whichever one you want.

I wouldn't say there is no difference. the LT1 WS6 airbox pulls air through the hood while the LS1 lid pulls it up from the air dam in front of the radiator. on an LS1 style hood i'm not sure which would be better because i doubt the LT1 setup will seal to the hood like it does with the proper hood. that being said, with the proper LT1 ram air hood, an LT1 box is a better setup than an LS1 lid imo.

Exactly what it meant. At your power level, neither one will produce more power than the other.

Simple.

now that question can get plenty people feuding on here. The LS1 style air intake is hard to beat unless its fully custom to your particular setup.

Lol..it doesn't take much for some of us..

I agree..the LS1 Lid properly setup and built to take full advantage of it's design is really hard to beat.

hmm. i always thought the higher and colder the air coming in, the better. i figured that the LT1 sealed box would always trump the LS1 lid due to the fact the lid has to pull air from under the car up through the front of the radiator.

i guess its a moot point because he doesn't have the proper LT1 WS6 hood, but i think with the proper hood, you'd be better off with the stock 96-97 WS6 box than the LS1 lid. that's just my opinion though.

i didn't realize that he was referring to the volant intake and not a stock WS6 but then again the volant looks like it does the same thing (seal to the hood, suck air through the grills)

I see your point. I have the stock WS6 airbox and the factory WS6 hood with the weatherstripping to seal the box against the hood as well. My point is that at his power level he won't see any significant gains from either one. An engine will only breathe as much air as it needs, and both intake methods provide an adequate supply.

so is it even worth the hassel of doing the mod if im not going to see significant gains?
