Default How do i repair a heater hose?

I sprung a leak on my top heater hose, I tried repairing it my self with duck tape lol didn't work, I was thinking about just rubbing some silicone on the hose, what's the best way to plug up a pin sized hole?

Have you tried taking a lighter to it and melt the rubber around it and seal the pin hole?

Rubber is highly flammable carefull not to burn down the engine/car. Have a fire extinguisher with you.

Oh yeah crap I forgot. I just woke up lol. No seriously If you want a cheap strong fix you can cut it where the hole is and go buy on of those plastic connectors at Home Depot or lowes with the barbs on both ends and stick in the hose. They never leak either. I've had one on my 84 Isuzu beater for 6 years and never a drop. It wouldnt really make it any longer either as long as you get the right size so you can jam it in there. They have straight ones and 90* ones.

Lol really don't want to damage it any more than it already is, sounds like it might work though

Mod that's a good idea but I don't want to completly cut the hose just for a little pin hole leak, will putting some silicone to cover it up work?

Either replace it or do what Moderate Z28 said. No use messing with a pin hole that will alway leak

You're making this into a serious project by limiting what you want to do. As mentioned, replace the hose or cut/splice a barb fitting.

Also, heater hoses from the dealer are expensive. Heater hoses from typical parts stores are CHEAP.

i used a straight one to repair a damaged hose on my suburban. if you dont want to buy a new hose, i think that would be the best repair.

As everyone else has said just use a barbed splice and forget about it.

cut a piece of the hose where the leak is (just an inch or so) and remove the peice, you can buy a kit from any parts store to splice 2 hoses together. i had to do mine a few months ago.......that damn hose is very expensive to replace!

My hose came apart at the flow restrictor valve thing. Just replaced it with a $6 universal hose at the local parts store. A month or so later i blew a head gasket. Pretty sure it was not related though.

You can buy individual hoses and not have to buy the whole thing. You cut off the swaged collars and put the new hose on with regular hose clamps. Now, you know a little more about it.
