Default Need some advice...

What's the proper start up for a fully rebuilt engine?

If you mean a break in, it varies. Roller motors are pretty simple. Cam requires no break in, however depending on what rings you have determines when they will wear in.

For instance, cast iron rings take no time to break in vs. chromemoly.

Every motor I build, I run rotella oil, make sure the valves are set good, no leaks, noises etc. Then beat the snot out of it. Change the oil run what ever you want.

Ask 5 different people you will get 5 different answers.

like after putting in a engine, are there certain steps to take before you start the car?

make sure there is oil in it, make sure there is gas in the tank, make sure all connections are tight, be ready to pull the battery cable if the starter hangs up, have a fire extinguisher ready if it decides to go up, thats the best I can think of, assuming everything was assembled and timed correctly it should start and run with no problems

okay well ya sounds good!
What are the chances of the engine failing? and not working properly from the average mechanic?

Prime the oil system before you turn it over with the starter.

yup.. when my motor was rebuilt , we primed the system... cranked it up.. idled for about 5 seconds then quickly rev'd it to about 6000 rpms



15000 miles later the motor still running like a champ
