10 bolt rear guys come in!!!!!!
Hey guys i went to the track tonight and lets just say i blew my posi. i got the single tire screamer now. i threw the DR's on and aired them down to 20psi and when i went to do the burnout the drivers side just sat still lol. but anyway how many of u guys are running gears and the T/a girdle? also is the gridle going to help me save the 10 bolt for a while. i am going to upgrade the rear soon since its half broke now. i was thinking bout going with 3.73's and the girdle. also should i upgrade the axles too. i dont want to spend a lot of money on this because eventually i will be upgrading rear to 12 bolt or 9 inch. but not for a while. thanks for any input its greatly appreciated. Also by end of year i will be getting a ss3600 stall. will i have to worry bout rear then if i do put girdle and 3.73's in it. thanks

This is just my personal opinion but I would save to buy a stronger rear. All that money spent on axle shafts, gears, girdles, etc. Could just go toward the new one. There was a write up I found about making it live but it took some work. It's by Hazard2k

yeh i know i should save up for a good rear, but thats expensive. im not making a whole lot of power and i know it would just be best in the long run to get a better rear. i was just hoping i could maybe do this stuff and maybe spend $500 on the stuff to make a 10 bolt a little stronger for my purpose lol. i wish this would have not happened now, but it gives me an excuse to upgrade i guess. lol

Go for it!! Maybe with some chromoly shafts and a girdle that'll be all you need. Then when it's time to upgade maybe you can recoupe some from selling the 10bolt. I know right before I order my Moser I'm going to spray a 150 shot right out of the hole on DR's. It's easier to carry in pieces. Assuming it'll hook.

Ive made about 20 passes on my 10-bolt, which has a girdle and 3,73's. I use MT ET streets and havent had any issues. Maybe your 10-bolts time is up and you should start on a swap. Another option that is a little cheaper than a 12-bolt is an 8.8 out of the Mustang. Save weight and money.

I would not upgrade the rear. I broke two of them on street tires.
As others have said, it's just money that could go towards a better one. I'd just try to find someone selling one with 3.42s or 3.73s for now (even try junkyards since 6 speeds came with 3.42s) and don't beat on it too hard. Then save up for the better rear.
Just my opinion though - you might spend $500 on your 10 bolt and still break it. Then how are you going to feel? I know I felt like crap after all the WASTED time I sunk into mine.
And also I'm biased but consider a strange dana 60. It's slightly cheaper than the 9" or 12 bolt from strange or moser, but you have to buy a driveshaft ($200-$300) with it. Then again, why have a strong rear and a weak driveshaft?

You have an auto, so you have a slight stay of execution. Autos are generally gentler on the rear than M6s. However, they still have their breaking points. You can modify the stock 10-bolt all you want, but in the end you still have it's critical weakness, the 7.5" ring gear.
Save and upgrade. Been there, done that. I've been through FOUR 10-bolts.

Another option if you wish to do a little custom mounting work is to get one of the larger 10 bolts out of the 2nd gen camaros. My old man has one fully built in the car in my sig and its bulletproof for the ETs he is running. Cost him less than half the price of a 12 bolt or 9" to build. They are 8.5 ring gear i believe.
Dont try to take the cheapest way out that nearly always backfires on your ***.

Thanks for thye input guys. i can still drive the car, but since the posi is messed up when ever i leave from a dead stop the car clunks when it first starts to get rolling. but its not a daily, so it can sit until i can get enough to buy a rear. i think i will just go with what alot of you said and save for a stronger rear, either 12 bolt or 9inch or dana. thanks for all the input it helped out alot. i really dont want to waste money into the 10 bolt when in the end it will break again most likely.

A 3.42 may be even cheaper.
