Lightbulb Proform vs Comp Cams

I was originally going for Comp Cams 1418-16 steel SA 1.6 roller rockers, but a porting shop suggested I use Proform 66915 extruded aluminum SA 1.6 roller rockers.

Who has used both? And which am I better of with? The price difference is a lame 3$. Aluminum is lighter of course, but steel is stronger. But the right alloy of aluminum will win any day too.

Proform=Chinese. I've seen numerous threads of destroyed Proform rockers filling the engine with aluminum bits.

Just about everything with a Proform name is a knock-off of a quality part that's made better somewhere else. Even if the price difference were to be $300 instead of $3.00, the Comps would still be a better deal. Redoing something that has been trashed to save a few bucks is never fun.

If you want aluminum, go with the Crane Golds (if you can find them). For steel go with the Pro Mags from Comp. Do NOT skimp on the valvetrain. Some people have gotten lucky in the past running cheap parts - others not so much.

I am going with the Comps, I never heard of Proform until I visited Summit. Some are advising me to get full roller rockers instead of the 1418-16s.

Good advice and better bang for the buck.

I've had good luck with proforms but if I were to do it all again I'd prolly run promags I guess just for the piece of mind. I like steel better than aluminum when it comes to a high stress load part

I would get the Comp 1305-16 1.6 NSA 7/16" rr's. That will require guideplates and 7/16" rocker arm studs.
I use TrickFlow 30400623-8 (guideplates) and ARP 134-7103 (rocker arm studs).

what rpm are you looking to turn in this combo? this will dictate the necessity of a NSA or SA rocker, me personally I like to use SA if I can but that's just my preference

Warning - opinion ahead.

IMO, NSAs are the only way to go. Just looking at SA rockers make me nervous.

Will the Pro Mags clear the valve covers?

oh well like I said that's just my opinion, then again I don't rev to the moon.

if you're buying NSA rockers research on which guideplates to get since I've seen quite a few people run into nothing but problems with certain brands but I'm no expert on this so I'm sure someone like ramair or slp can steer you in the proper direction for guideplates

the only thing i can see is that while your still hyd cam sa are fine. they are always on the valve tip, except in a valve float situation. then your ******* yourself anyway. if you were using a solid cam (flat tappet or roller tappet) then i would say non sa. i run sa on my race car motor. but i only rev to 6500. but i know people that only rev to 5500 and run low 5's in the 1/8th. bottom line is it all depends on what your going to do with it and what your it.

TrickFlow guideplates work without issue...and they are only 16 bucks from Summit.
