weakest point are the rod bolts and you still can spin to 6700 effectively but all engines are different you can say some were touched by god before leaving the plan and can take abuse like all hell while other will blow up with no abuse....

I always thought that was a pretty well-known and agreed upon fact about the LT1s.

I also agree about the rod bolts stretching.

because in my 150k mile motor the only problem was a pair of rod bolts that stretched and caused me to eat a bearing up?

that motor had been sprayed, used, and abused. every other part of the motor was in great condition outside of specific parts damaged related due to domino effect.

not trying to say everyone who revs their car to 6400-6600rpm is gonna have the same result I did, the OP asked for the weakest point and it seems to be the most common point of failure in stock RA lt1's that let go. it's not often you see a spun main bearings, snapped crank, bent rods, etc as the source of a failed motor with stock lt1's

Weakest link(s) : Rod bolts, rods, pistons, crank, main caps. If you're going to spend the time and money to rebuild it, why not put some stronger parts? It's worth waiting the extra time to save more pennies

What? No lol. That wasn't in any kind of order. I was making a funny, basically listing the entire rotating assembly being the weakest link =P Plus in my case, yes. Stock 93 rods are much weaker than 94+

Im in the process of building a block for my 94 Z and am using a 95 block with stock rods and crank out of a 95 vette turned and balanced of course. I am upgrading the bolts to ARP's and the pistons because the research ive done tells me they are the weak part. Just dont know what pistons im using yet though

So are you keeping the stock cam? If you are setting the rev limiter to 6k, I don't think you'd need to touch the bottom end at all...
