You're better off building a quality 355 if you're going to skimp out and do a "budget" 383.. and the 503 won't really compliment those cubic inches.

1badzee is correct. The stock factory crank is stronger than the one in that kit. A well built 355 using the factory crank would be the way to go if your trying to keep the cost down.

Uhm.. I was going to say something way bigger than a 306 (usually the norm for a power-craving 383 build). Dude just stick to a 355 if you want to use a small cam and don't want to turn high RPM's, and run 12's-13's (depending on location and driving ability) all day.

The 306 is not a large cam by any means for a 383...Search the cam stickie above. I recomend building a forged 383 or stick wit a 355 and reuse/recondition the stock crank and rods.

Like mentioned above, you can re-use the stock crank (get it reconditioned) and the rods, or you can get some decent scat I beam rods with ARP hardware (they are like $300 and presumingly stronger than stock rods) and just get a nice piston/ring set. You can do a mildly built 355 that'll make more power and be mor reliable than a budget 383.

Option for what? What are you trying to accomplish? Is there something wrong with the motor that's in the car. Just looking to be quicker?

Are you going to at least get your heads worked on? I suggest talking to Lloyed Elliot or Advanced Induction about cam and/or heads information. Neither will fail to steer you in the right direction. Both proven over and over again

You'll need a lot more than just a cam to make anywhere near 400whp.

But head work will get you a LOT more power than a 383 would if you bolted stock untouched heads back onto it.

I suggest you don't do anything but read for awhile.

Leave the stock bottom end alone. A good AI/LE heads/cam package and all of the supporting modifications and tuning will fit the bill. Expect around $3000.
