Default need help ASAP! cam swap

okay guys...i'm getting pretty frustrated. having a buddy who owns a shop do a cam swap for me since he's been really slow lately. he has an old school chevy guy that's worked on tons of SBC's in his day that works for him. this guy is telling me there's no way my valve covers are going to clear the rockers even if i do the trimming suggested. tell me its doable...

now, granted i did buy all the parts used, but it was all from reputable sellers. now, he's telling me the studs i have have to be grinded down to fit in the heads, otherwise they will poke a hole in the head itself. i have the pro mags with 7/16 studs, NSA. WTF is he talking about? is there something idk about? please help me!

He either doesn't know what he's talking about or is making excuses for laging...

Pro Mags WILL fit under stock trimmed covers. Tell him to ask me how I know...

Did you get the 1.77" tall 7/16" studs and not the 1.94" studs? If the former, they WILL fit. No trimming/grinding required whatsoever.

I believe it's the effective stud length (height above the seating surface if I am not mistaken). I believe the 1.94" studs are for big blocks, not sure though.

Studs go in heads no problems. No grinding at all. Rockers will fit with minimal clearance on the valve covers. If everything came off a LT1 there should be no issue.

Find someone else or do it yourself.I wouldn't trust him based on what you have shared with us.

Those are the same rockers I have. More than likely the studs you have are the ones you need.
Honestly a cam swap is not that difficult. If you are handy with a wrench, I wouldn't be afraid of doing it yourself. Take your car back from him and post a thread on here with questions. If you want, PM me and I can give you my phone number and I can personally talk you through some of the steps involved in the cam swap.

Read thses for starters:

i can't take my car back from him...its torn down, lol.

i talked to my buddy again and he's totally fine with the valve cover thing. he's saying the length of the stock studs compared to the new ones is different and that's his concern. he's closed now and back out of town, so i guess i will have to stop down there in the morning and see exactly what's going on and get back to you. just doesn't make sense to me that the studs would be different...hmmm...other than that the swap has been going really well, lol

Ok, I would still read the links that I posted thoroughly. That way you'll have a good knowledge base to have an in-depth conversation with him the next time he tries to come at you with BS like that. Also if he manages to mess anything up, you can tell him to just pay you for the parts and you can fix his mistakes yourself.

have you thought about the studs being used with guide plates? Is that why he is saying that they are too long?

this is true. The guide plates are about 1/8" give or take a little. I cant remember off the top of my head the actual thickness
